Fayette resident named head of Georgia Chamber

The Georgia Chamber of Commerce has announced today that Fayette County resident Chris Clark has been selected as the organization’s new President & CEO effective November 1, 2010.

Clark, who is currently the commissioner of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, succeeds George Israel who announced his retirement earlier this year after eight years of service to the Chamber. Read More»

It was a trip to remember and never forget. The final voyage for Fayette Honor Flight brought some 80 veterans of World War II to see their memorial in Washington D.C. free of charge Sept. 15.

For the seventh and last time, the veterans got a motorcycle and police priority escort to Hartsfield International in Atlanta. On their flight up, the veterans were treated with a special “mail call” with letters written by local schoolchildren. Read More»

Historic Coweta County Courthouse opens this weekend

The wait is over. And those attending the opening of the historic 1904 Coweta County Courthouse this weekend in downtown Newnan will see nothing less than a work of art that brought the century-old structure back to its original beauty.

“This has been a community project from the beginning,” said Patricia Palmer, Coweta County Public Affairs Director. “It was approved by the citizens as a SPLOST (1-cent sales tax) project, the municipalities supported it, and we all have watched as the courthouse emerged even more striking and beautiful that we could have imagined.” Read More»

William Thomas Overby Day Memorial Service held

William Thomas Overby lived in Coweta County from 1839 to 1861. He entered Confederate service in May, 1861 and was hung by Federal forces in Front Royal, Virginia, on September 23, 1864.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans, Camp #715, each year celebrates his life and devotion to family and the Confederacy.
