PTC house fire results in total loss, no injuries

Units with Peachtree City Fire Rescue on Wednesday responded to a fire in progress at 105 Grenoble Road that resulted in a near total loss of the residence but without any injuries.

Department spokesman Ron Mundy said the fire call came in at 12:53 p.m., with the first units responding within three minutes.

Gusty winds prompt caution alert

A “potent system” blowing through Fayette and Coweta counties today is producing sustained winds of up to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, generating a caution for drivers from the National Weather Service Forecast Office in Peachtree City.

“Winds this strong can make driving difficult for high profile vehicles,” the NWS special weather statement said. “Unsecured outdoor items such as trash cans and lawn furniture may be blown around. With soils wet from the recent rainfall, these winds could down trees and large limbs.”

Traffic accident with no serious injuries stalls traffic on Hwy. 54 East in PTC

A two-car accident at Ga. Highway 54 and Flat Creek Road on Monday afternoon in Peachtree City resulted in an overturned vehicle but no serious injuries.

The accident occurred before 5 p.m. and roadways were open by 6 p.m., according to the Peachtree City Police Dept.

Police said there were no serious injuries in the accident which had police, ambulance crews and firefighters at the scene. Read More»

Fayette deputies test on-body cameras

On-body cameras worn by law enforcement officers may be in the news recently but the idea of finding cameras that are durable and affordable has been a long time coming for the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Having experimented with cameras since 2007 with limited success, the sheriff currently is evaluating two types of camera systems for road deputies and jailers.

Sheriff Barry Babb said the sheriff’s office initially used shoulder-mounted cameras as far back as 2007, but found little success with the units. Read More»

Paralyzed from the waist down, chief’s wife released from Atl. hospital

UPDATED 2:35 p.m. Jan. 15, 2014 — Maggie McCollom has has been released from Atlanta Medical Center after being shot accidentally Jan. 1 by Peachtree City Police Chief William McCollom in the couple’s home on Jan. 1. Atlanta media are reporting she is paralyzed from the waist down as a result of the gunshot wound.

The chief is still on paid leave from the city and has made no statements to news media.

There is still no word from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) on the results of the investigation the agency is conducting. Read More»

A Fayetteville man has died after carelessly handling a firearm in his home on Jan. 9.
