Fox attack in Tyrone sends 2 to hospital Monday

Tribute to a Palmetto hero

His family and Palmetto Deputy Police Chief John Cooper looked on last Saturday as Sgt. Lee Gragg was honored at the Georgia Police Memorial Ride held in Peachtree City. Gragg was severely injured in an incident in September 2009 and has returned to light duty with the department.

Fayetteville police hold junior police academy

This year the Fayetteville Police Department is hosting their seventh annual Junior Police Academy. This is an academy for children who have completed the sixth grade and/or going into the seventh, eight, or ninth grades and live in Fayette County.

The dates for the academy are July 26-29. The academy day begins at 8 a.m. and is over by 4 p.m. The week consists of the recruits learning many different facets of police work to include but not limited to Defensive Tactics, Traffic Laws, DUI laws, K-9, Crime Scene Processing, Handcuffing - just to name a few. Palmetto Police Sgt. Lee Gragg has been named one of eight nationalist finalists in the America’s Most Wanted All-Star Contest, sponsored by Sprint, after surviving a routine traffic stop gone wrong. Outdoor burning ban starts May 1

The Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services wants to remind all residents and developers that the outdoor burning ban will go into effect beginning May 1.

No outdoor burning will be allowed from May 1 until the ban is lifted on October 1. The ban is applied throughout north Georgia to improve air quality. Read More»

No cause determined for Lanyard Bend fire

Peachtree City fire investigators have wrapped up their investigation into a fire that nearly claimed the lives of a Peachtree City family last week.

The fire marshal has ruled that the cause of the April 1 fire is undetermined.

The blaze at 106 Lanyard Bend was discovered just after midnight by a neighbor who called 911 and then entered the smoke-filled home to awaken the Baker family so they could flee the home. Read More»

The Fayette County Commission chambers were filled with coworkers, colleagues, friends and family April 2 for the graduation and swearing-in of the Fayette County Fire & Emergency Services (FES) cadet class of 2010.
