Newnan animal warden Cyndi Hoffman announced Monday that there has been a confirmed case of rabies in the city.

On Thursday, June 3rd, an employee of Active Pest Control, 100 Werz Ind. Blvd, was attacked by a fox by the dumpster at that location. The employee killed the fox and turned it over to the animal warden where it was sent to the lab to be tested for rabies. The results came back positive, said Newnan spokesperson Gina Snider. Better safe than sorry. The Fayetteville Fire Department temporarily closed the Towne Center Shopping Center on South Glynn Street late Sunday afternoon after a coolant line broke at the Kroger supermarket. The center was cleared for opening later Sunday night.

The shopping center was closed at approximately 6 p.m. after the fire department received a 911 call from store employees. Fire department spokesperson Bill Rieck said the break in a refrigerant line came from a piece of portable equipment in the deli area. The refrigerant has the potential to be explosive, Rieck said. A bicyclist was injured early Monday afternoon when a pickup truck hit him as he rode alongside Ga. Highway 54 near Ebenezer Road, an eyewitness had told The Citizen.
Fayette County EMS officials confirmed that the cyclist, an unidentified male, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.

The eyewitness said the truck driver noted that he didn’t see the cyclist along the road, and the truck’s side mirror was knocked off during the collision. Read More»
