Near drowning incident June 20 claims life of Gwinnett 9 year-old

A nine year-old Gwinnett County boy admitted to Scottish Rite Hospital June 20 after a near drowning incident while visiting the Southampton subdivision in Tyrone died Monday. The boy had been listed in critical condition since his admission to the hospital.

Fire drives 3 wedding parties out of PTC’s Wyndham hotel

Confirmed rabies case in Newnan

Newnan animal warden Cyndi Hoffman announced Monday that there has been a confirmed case of rabies in the city.

On Thursday, June 3rd, an employee of Active Pest Control, 100 Werz Ind. Blvd, was attacked by a fox by the dumpster at that location. The employee killed the fox and turned it over to the animal warden where it was sent to the lab to be tested for rabies. The results came back positive, said Newnan spokesperson Gina Snider. The employee started rabies shots at the hospital on that day and will continue the series, Snider said. Read More»

Serious injury reported in PTC vehicle collision

Peachtree City Police reported Wednesday that on June 1 at 3:20 p.m. a collision occurred at the intersection of Crosstown Drive at the entrance to Braelinn Village Shopping Center. Officers responded to a reported two vehicle collision at this intersection.

Mr. Clinton Melton, 81 years of age, Peachtree City, was air lifted to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries, according to department spokesperson Michelle Ward.

Ms. Jessica Rexrode, 18 years of age, Peachtree City, did not report any injuries at the scene, Ward said. Read More»

Refrigerant leak causes Towne Center closure Sunday

Better safe than sorry. The Fayetteville Fire Department temporarily closed the Towne Center Shopping Center on South Glynn Street late Sunday afternoon after a coolant line broke at the Kroger supermarket. The center was cleared for opening later Sunday night.

The shopping center was closed at approximately 6 p.m. after the fire department received a 911 call from store employees. Fire department spokesperson Bill Rieck said the break in a refrigerant line came from a piece of portable equipment in the deli area. The refrigerant has the potential to be explosive, Rieck said. Cyclist injured on Hwy. 54 Monday

A bicyclist was injured early Monday afternoon when a pickup truck hit him as he rode alongside Ga. Highway 54 near Ebenezer Road, an eyewitness had told The Citizen.
Fayette County EMS officials confirmed that the cyclist, an unidentified male, was transported to an area hospital for treatment of injuries.

The eyewitness said the truck driver noted that he didn’t see the cyclist along the road, and the truck’s side mirror was knocked off during the collision. Read More»

Fight after May 14 soccer game lands three students in jail
