PTC girl, 11, spots fire, saves neighbors

An alert 11-year-old girl is being credited with saving the lives of her two next-door neighbors after spotting a fire in their carport area just before 5:30 this morning, Peachtree City fire officials said.

Fire destroys mobile home in Tyrone

A home in the Whispering Pines mobile home park was heavily damaged by a fire reported shortly after 2 p.m. this afternoon.

When the first fire crew arrived, the unit was fully engulfed in flames, said Lt. Donnie Davis of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services.

A Fayette County firefighter is expected to remain in the hospital several more days as he recovers from burns sustained while fighting a house fire east of Peachtree City Saturday morning.

A total of three firefighters were injured when a collapse occurred in the upper level of the home at 180 Platinum Ridge Point, said Lt. Donnie Davis of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency Services. Three firefighters were injured when part of a home collapsed during a structure fire east of Peachtree City late this morning, officials said.

Two of the firemen were airlifted to metro Atlanta hospitals with serious but non-life threatening injuries; the third was taken to Piedmont Fayette Hospital with minor injuries, officials said.

Safety a key component of Great Ga. Airshow

A number of safety initiatives in place each year for the Great Georgia Airshow are designed to protect the crowd, including individual pre-flight mechanical inspections of each aircraft and the presence of a safety monitor from the Federal Aviation Administration, air show organizers said this week.

On top of that, all of the aerobatics undertaken by aircraft are designed to move away from the crowd, according to Angie Faulise, the director of this year’s airshow, slated for Oct. 8-9 at Falcon Field in Peachtree City. Read More»

Michelle Thompson has to temporarily contend with a horizontal fence in her backyard on Harbor Loop in Peachtree City. But that was the case after heavy rains Thursday forced stormwater over her neighbor’s yard to the north and into that home’s garage and home, with the torrent crashing through a portion of Michelle’s fence, filling her swimming pool, getting inside her home and nearly causing her 8-foot by 12-foot storage shed to float away like it did five years ago. Heavy rainstorm causes flooding Thursday in PTC, but no injuries reported

Nearly four inches of rain fell on Peachtree City in the rainstorm that cranked up Thursday afternoon, creating flash flooding situations on a handful of city streets, officials said.

The rain also opened up a large sinkhole near the cart path along the Center Green subdivision behind Long Leaf. Public works crews have roped off the area, and it is not immediately known if the path will be closed or not, officials said. Read More»
