Rail crossing work in PTC closes Dividend Drive, Paschall Road

The intersection of Dividend Drive and Aviation Way at the railroad tracks and the intersection of Paschall Road at the railroad tracks will be closed for the next three to four days, city officials said Tuesday.

The closures are necessary as the CSX Railroad company makes improvements in those areas, officials said.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes until the work is complete.

County: Youngsters scaled fence to leap into the water

Fayette County officials are warning parents to keep their curious and adventurous youngsters outside the secured gated areas of the dam and spillway at Lake McIntosh and Lake Horton.

Last week, several young girls were found inside the secured area at Lake McIntosh in Peachtree City, having scaled a fence to get in. They were jumping into the water from the top of the steel structure that spans the bridge, officials said. Read More»

Fayette County just experienced more traffic fatalities in one 48-hour period than at any time in recent memory.

In the period from Friday morning to Sunday morning, three people lost their lives and four were injured in three separate crashes, all in north Fayette.

The first fatality happened Friday morning.

F'ville man dies in 1-vehicle accident

A Fayetteville man died June 1 after his vehicle left the roadway on Mann Road and turned over multiple times.

Joseph Dobson, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene, according Sheriff Barry Babb.

Babb said deputies at 7:40 a.m. responded to a single vehicle traffic accident at 143 Mann Road, a rural dirt road in the northwest section of Fayette County near the Fulton County line.

Upon arriving at the scene, deputies and medics located an overturned Ford Expedition that was determined to have left the roadway and violently rolled multiple times, Babb said. Read More»

A May 24 head-on collision on Fischer Road in east Coweta County claimed the life of a Peachtree City resident.

PTC July 4 fireworks to proceed, even if lake remains dry

Lake Peachtree may be down for some time, but the city’s July 4 fireworks display will go on over the lake, water or none, city officials have said.

The lake’s level was lowered in February to allow residents to repair docks and maintain the shoreline, but structural problems were found with the lake's spillway, putting a halt to plans to refill the lake in April. City and county officials are working together on a plan to temporarily repair the spillway, but the state may force the lake to remain unfilled until permanent repairs are made. Read More»
