PTC changing crime alerts; users need to sign up again

Peachtree City residents who have become accustomed to crime alerts on their cellphone and email inboxes will have to make a switch, and soon.

The city is abandoning the Nixle service because the company has changed its mind and decided to start charging cities for the service. Instead, the city is rolling out a similar service that will also be free, and can be signed up for on the city’s website at http://www.peachtree-city.org/CivicAlerts.aspx. Read More»

Sharpsburg man guilty of tax evasion

A Sharpsburg man will be sentenced on May 9 in U.S. District Court after entering a guilty plea on two counts of tax evasion and two counts of failing to file tax returns.

Robert C. Boot, 59, was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 14, 2010, on two counts of tax evasion and two counts of failure to file tax returns, according to U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates. And on Dec. 8 Boot entered a guilty plea to two counts of failure to file, Yates said, adding that in his plea agreement Boot admitted that he owed $75,196.25 in taxes for tax years 2002-2004.  Read More»

Accused church burglar returned to Fayette County

A Peachtree City man charged with church burglaries in Fayette and Coweta counties in late 2010 has been returned to Fayette after spending the past few months in the Coweta County Jail.

Joseph Michael Robinson, 25, of Peachtree City, was charged April 11 on outstanding warrants related to the burglaries of two Peachtree City churches, said department spokesperson Rosanna Dove. Read More»

Newnan man arrested for child molestation

A 22 year-old Newnan man was arrested April 8 on multiple charges relating to the molestation of a six year-old Newnan boy.

Brandon Michael Murphy of Berry Avenue was charged with aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation, kidnapping and enticing a minor for indecent purposes, according to Newnan Police Department records. Read More»

PTC man arrested for fake cocaine, biting cop

A 19 year-old Peachtree City man was arrested April 9 on charges of committing two felonies and a misdemeanor after reportedly approaching several juveniles with fake cocaine then biting the officer attempting to take him into custody.

Corey McKoy, 19, of Peachtree City, was charged with sale of a counterfeit substance (felony), obstruction of an officer by injury (felony) and misdemeanor loitering. Read More»

Warrant roundup nets nearly 3 dozen arrests

A warrant round-up March 28 initiated by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and in conjunction with the Fayetteville Police Department, Clayton County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service, resulted in the arrest of nearly three dozen people with outstanding warrants in six counties in metro Atlanta.

“That’s 38 with outstanding warrants who were supposed to be in jail and who are now in jail,” said Fayette County Sheriff Wayne Hannah. Read More»
