An Atlanta woman has been arrested for helping herself to credit cards and other valuables purloined from church-goers vehicles in a series of thefts here.

Latoya Ellis, 31, would strike in the middle of church services, and she would use credit cards immediately afterwards, often to buy shoes, investigators said. She has been linked to eight entering auto cases that occurred at New Hope Baptists Church (north campus) and Flat Creek Baptist Church dating back to April 17, and also on May 1 and May 8. Burglary in N. F’ville nets $15K cash, jewels

Fayetteville Police are investigating a residential burglary in the Woodbine subdivision off White Road where the basement door was kicked in and a large sum of cash and diamond jewelry was stolen.

Department spokesperson Mike Whitlow said the burglary occurred between May 1-9. The exact date is not known since the homeowner did not check the basement door on each of those days.

Whitlow said the burglar made off with what was reported as $15,000 in $100 bills, diamond jewelry and a laptop computer. Read More»

Thieves hit parked cars at Fayette churches, gyms

New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville was struck again Sunday morning by thieves who shattered the windows of two parked vehicles to get cash and credit cards, sheriff’s officials said.

And Peachtree City had five entering auto cases in five days recently as well, including two at local gyms, which has been a recurring matter, police said. Read More»

Arrests made for cruelty to children, burglary, other offenses

Arrests in four separate cases reported May 5 by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office involved incidents pertaining to cruelty to children, burglary, attempting to influence a witness and identity fraud.

Sheriff’s spokesperson Brent Rowan said 43 year-old Peachtree City resident Richard Chris Munoz was arrested April 27 in connection with a cruelty to children case that had been reported on April 22. Munoz was charged with first degree cruelty to children, third degree cruelty to children and battery (family violence), said Rowan. Read More»

Sheriff: eyes out for church-service bandits

A pair of criminals have been stealing items from unlocked cars in the middle of church services in north Fayette County, sheriff’s officials said.

Because of the brazen thefts, citizens are encouraged to call 911 if they see any suspicious activity just prior to or during church service.

The thieves have struck both New Hope Baptist Church and Flat Creek Baptist Church on April 17 and May 1, taking purses, credit cards, cellphones, GPS receivers and other items of value. Read More»

ATM stolen from F'ville Walgreens

Fayetteville Police are looking for two men responsible for crashing through the front of the Walgreens pharmacy on South Glynn Street in the early hours of May 2 and making off with the store’s ATM machine.

Department spokesperson Steve Crawshaw said that two men in a silver truck backed into the Walgreens building at approximately 3:30 a.m. on May 2. The men loaded the ATM machine in the truck and drove off, Crawshaw said, adding that the ATM was located near the front door. Read More»

Parents of middle schoolers urged to attend, but open to all

Parents wanting to be up to speed on Internet safety and gang issues should put Tuesday, May 17 on their calendars.

That’s when the Peachtree City Police Department is offering such information in a community forum at J.C. Booth Middle School from 7-8:30 p.m.
