Deputies say Hampton woman bilked relatives out of $40K

A Hampton woman has been charged with multiple counts of theft by deception after defrauding her Fayette County in-laws of $40,000 over a three-year period, according to Fayette County Sheriff’s spokesman Josh Shelton.

Sarah A. Newton, 56, was charged on Dec. 14 with 18 counts of theft by deception, Shelton said.

Shelton said Newton over a period of three years convinced her in-laws that various debts she had accumulated were related to her children and, thus, that the in-laws bore some financial responsibility. Read More»

18-year-old FCHS student charged with molestation

A Fayette County High School student was arrested Dec. 14 on charges of aggravated child molestation in connection to an incident that occurred two years ago at the home of relatives.

Terryne “Tank” S. Harris, 18, of Creekview Trail in Fayetteville, was charged with aggravated child molestation, according to Fayette County Sheriff’s spokesman Josh Shelton. Read More»

Coweta duo arrested in Fayette burglary

A Newnan man and a Sharpsburg woman have been arrested in connection with a Nov. 29 burglary in south Fayette County.

Fayette County Sheriff’s spokesman Josh Shelton said investigators have arrested 20-year-old Amanda McGuffin, of Sharpsburg, and 32-year-old Jonathan York, of Newnan. Both were charged with one count of burglary and one count of robbery, Shelton said.

Shelton said McGuffin and York on Nov. 29 were burglarizing a home in south Fayette County when the homeowner came home and interrupted the crime. The homeowner called 911 but the perpetrators fled before deputies arrived. Read More»

Coweta man charged with child porn violations

A Newnan man has been indicted for receiving and distributing child pornography on the Internet, according to officials from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Atlanta.

Justin Corley, 32, is charged with one count each of distributing child pornography, receiving child pornography and possessing child pornography by using “peer to peer” file sharing programs, officials said. Read More»

Fayetteville Police are looking for two men in their early 20s who robbed Walmart employees at gunpoint late Thursday night and made off with money from the store’s cash registers. The get-away vehicle and an empty money box were subsequently located in Clayton County.

Fayetteville Det. Mike Whitlow said the armed robbery occurred near midnight on Thursday at the Walmart store at the Fayette Pavilion as cash registers with an undetermined amount of cash were being emptied by employees into a container inside a grocery cart. Read More»
