Equine equipment, other items stolen from therapy program

The Fruition Farm therapeutic riding program on Gullat Road near Tyrone and Coweta County was the site of two thefts in the past week. Thieves got away with more than $21,000 in riding equipment along with satellite radio and GPS equipment. 5 F’ville stores fined for selling alcohol to minors in Dec. police sting

The Fayetteville City Council on March 17 voted to impose $1,000 fines and warnings to five local businesses for selling alcohol to a minor.

Police Chief Steve Heaton in recommending the fines and violations said that on Nov. 26 the police department conducted an investigation of alcohol serving permit compliance at several businesses throughout the city.

During the operation, five people at five businesses were cited for selling alcohol to a minor and one of them was cited for the additional charge of not having a server’s permit, Heaton said. Read More»

Newnan man arrested for molesting runaway girl in PTC

A Newnan man was arrested Thursday for having sex with a juvenile female whom he had helped run away from home in another state, police said. Ryan A. Walker, 19, of Highlands Point, Newnan was charged with child molestation, interference with child custody and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to the police report.

Infant murder suspect denied bond

A Franklin man charged with killing a 5-month-old baby in a northwest Fayette home will remain in jail for now.

A bond request from Steven Anthony Haire, 22, was denied this afternoon by Fayette County Superior Court Judge Tommy Hankinson. Haire is accused of shaking infant Zachery Freeman until the baby couldn’t breathe.

Haire’s attorney had asked for a $50,000 bond, claiming that Haire is not a flight risk and poses no threat to witnesses in the case. Read More»

Heaton shows downward trend in crime at city retreat

Fayetteville Police Chief Steve Heaton used the City Council retreat last week to unveil the city’s crime statistics for 2010. That data showed that Fayetteville has fewer violent crimes than nearly every other city in Georgia of similar size, that serious crimes continue to be on a downward trend and that the actual crime at the Fayette Pavilion continues to be more perception than reality. Oscar Mojica Rodriguez, 31, of Peachtree Landing Circle, Fairburn, for tail light required and driving while unlicensed.

Francis N. Peacock, 23, of West Fairfield Drive, Pensacola, Fla., for less than an ounce of marijuana.

Silvia Ramirez, 39, of Kings Ridge Drive, Peachtree City, for failure to yield right-of-way and driving while unlicensed.
