Latanya Tiheshia Bell, 36, of Wilburn Street, Jonesboro, for probation violation.
Corey James Bryant, 27, of Graden Lake Drive, Riverdale, for tail light violation and less than an ounce of marijuana.
Maurice DeMarco Cook, 21, of Foxhunt Lane, East Point, for probation violation.

F'ville cops arrest burglary suspects

The Fayetteville Police Department Wednesday arrested two people for a reported residential burglary in the city.

On May 26 the Fayetteville Police Department received a 911 call of a possible burglary. Police stopped a car leaving a home on Annelle Park Drive, said department spokesperson Steve Crawshaw. Items from a previous burglary were found in the car along with two guns, Crawshaw said. Read More»

Richrd Lamar Dix, Jr., 55, of Rhodes Lane, Griffin, for DUI alcohol and traffic offenses (2).
Muhammad J. Firdoush, 59, of Stevens Entry, Peachtree City, for wanted person (cobb County).
Maria C. Avendano, 29, of Hillcrest Avenue, Fairburn, for traffic offenses (2).
Fitore Ahmeti, 19, of Swanbrook Drive, Fayetteville, for possession of alcohol by a minor and traffic offense. Read More»

Coweta Judicial Circuit awarded federal funds for drug court

Coweta County May 18 joined Troup and Carroll counties in signing an intergovernmental agreement for federal grant money to fund the Coweta Judicial Circuit Drug Court Program.

Commissioners agreed to accept the federal funds through the FY 09 Recovery Act’s Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistant Grant in the amount of $428,292.

Across the three counties, the three-year grant funds will pay for items such as drug program coordinators and a case manager, travel mileage, a copier and supplies. Read More»

Attorney gets 5 years for bilking clients

Geoff Slade Sr. admits to taking $647,000 from client funds

A Fayetteville attorney who bilked his clients of more than $647,000 was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison and an additional 25 years probation.
Howard Geoffrey “Geoff” Slade Sr., 62, pled guilty to all 12 counts he was charged with, all but two being theft by taking while acting in a fiduciary capacity. The remaining two were theft by taking charges. Read More»

Second woman arrested for impersonating officer, robbing woman

A second arrest has been made in connection with Oct. 7, 2009 incident where two women impersonating undercover officers prompted an elderly north Fayette County woman to give them $3,700 from her bank account.

Katina Jetuan Jones, 39, of Birmingham, Ala., was arrested May 15 and was booked into the Fayette County Jail on charges of impersonating a police officer, kidnapping and robbery, according to sheriff’s spokesperson Brent Rowan. Read More»

Detectives arrest 3 in 1 week for identity fraud

Fayette County sheriff’s investigators arrested three people in one week for identity fraud crimes, the sheriff’s office has announced.

Chevell Chamberlyn, 30, of Atlanta, was arrested May 7 for making unauthorized transactions with the victim’s bank account Nove 16, 2009, deputies said. Read More»

Coweta criminal cases increase, but lower than Carroll or Troup

A part of the recent budget submission by Coweta County District Attorney Pete Skandalakis to the Coweta County Commission included the category and number of criminal cases opened by his office during 2008 and 2009 across the Coweta Judicial Circuit. Coweta and the circuit as a whole saw some increase in such cases, but Coweta ranked below Carroll and Troup counties in the total number of cases.
