Tyrone woman charged with bilking funds from employer

A Tyrone woman has been indicted on 40 criminal charges for forging checks and stealing more than $13,000 from a local business and its proprietor.

Linda J. Bowman, 53, of Vista Lane Tyrone faces 19 counts of theft by taking while acting as a fiduciary, 18 counts of forgery in the first degree and three counts of financial identity fraud, according to the recently-unsealed indictment against her.

An indictment returned by the grand jury is not a verdict of guilt; rather it means the grand jurors deemed there to be enough evidence for the matter to be resolved in a criminal trial. Read More»

Fla. man arrested for molesting boy; 5 indicted in sex crimes

A Ft. Lauderdale man who claimed to be in the community for the purpose of looking for a house was arrested June 26 on charges of aggravated child molestation in connection with an incident involving a 14-year-old boy.

Dennis Carl Davidson, 37, was charged with aggravated child molestation, felony enticing a child for indecent purposes and prowling, according to warrants filed by Fayette County Sheriff’s investigators. Read More»

F’ville crime rate drops to lowest since pre-1994

The 2009 Annual Report released by the Fayetteville Police Department shows a lower incidence of serious crimes in the city than at any time since prior to 1994.

Occurrences of the most serious crimes in 2009 decreased by more than 21 percent over 2008 while less serious crimes increased more than 11 percent during the same period. Read More»

Fayette deputies seize heroin, other drugs

Fayette County deputies on two occasions during the last week arrested four people for possession of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine or marijuana.

Glenn Parks Summerlin, 47, of Fayetteville, and Thomas Glen Summerlin, 20, of Riverdale, were arrested June 1 on charges of violation of the Georgia controlled substances law, according to Fayette Sheriff’s spokesperson Brent Rowan.

Rowan said a deputy initiating a traffic stop on Ga. Highway 85 North discovered approximately nine grams of suspected heroin in the men’s possession, along with small amounts of suspected marijuana and cocaine. Read More»
