Newnan man pleads guilty in prescription drug ring

Newnan resident Terry Randy Wallace pleaded guilty in federal court May 11 to conspiring with nearly a dozen others to possess and distribute the prescription drug oxycodone. The case is related to another involving 27 year-old Marietta resident Kristen Noelle Goduto and an alleged drug ring, the Goduto organization, that forged prescriptions for oxycodone and sold the drug across north Georgia from Blue Ridge to McDonough. Sheriff arrests two for identity fraud and theft

Investigators with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on May 18 and 19 arrested two Atlanta residents on charges of identity fraud and theft.

Spokesperson Brent Rowan said the May 18 arrest was in connection to an identity fraud incident that occurred on March 31. Read More»

Help sought to find 2 in Hwy. 138 shooting

The public's help is being sought to identify two men who shot a 56-year-old man during an attack on Ga. Highway 138 near the Clayton County line at 7:40 p.m. last night.

The assailants were described as black males approximately 18 to 25 years old, shirtless and wearing blue jeans that were slightly rolled up at the bottom, according to the Fayette County Sheriff's Office. A witness at the scene reported that one of the suspects was about six feet tall and the other was shorter.

The victim was shot in the abdomen and had other injuries from the assault, deputies said. The motive for the attack is unclear at this point, as investigators have been unable to interview the victim as he is being treated at Atlanta Medical Center. Read More»

Former Tyrone officer sentenced to 140 years in prison for child sex crimes

Matthew Anthony New, 38, was found guilty of 38 different charges, most of which were related to possession of child pornography; he was sentenced to serve 140 years in prison, followed by 10 years on probation, by Fayette County Superior Court Judge Mack Crawford.

An Atlanta woman has been arrested for helping herself to credit cards and other valuables purloined from church-goers vehicles in a series of thefts here.

Latoya Ellis, 31, would strike in the middle of church services, and she would use credit cards immediately afterwards, often to buy shoes, investigators said. She has been linked to eight entering auto cases that occurred at New Hope Baptists Church (north campus) and Flat Creek Baptist Church dating back to April 17, and also on May 1 and May 8. Burglary in N. F’ville nets $15K cash, jewels

Fayetteville Police are investigating a residential burglary in the Woodbine subdivision off White Road where the basement door was kicked in and a large sum of cash and diamond jewelry was stolen.

Department spokesperson Mike Whitlow said the burglary occurred between May 1-9. The exact date is not known since the homeowner did not check the basement door on each of those days.

Whitlow said the burglar made off with what was reported as $15,000 in $100 bills, diamond jewelry and a laptop computer. Read More»
