Mobile home park murder suspect had battered wife before

When Jesus Ojeda Jimenez stabbed his wife to death Friday night at their home in the Landmark Mobile Home Park, he did so in front of the couple’s three children, one of whom called 911 to summon help for his mom, The Citizen has confirmed with authorities.

Fayette County sheriff’s deputies arriving on the scene just before 8 p.m. found Jimenez’s wife, Liliana Ruiz, dead. Jimenez, 34, fled the area but turned himself in at the Fayette County Jail Saturday at the urging of his family, and he was cooperating with the investigation, sheriff’s officials said.

F’ville man arrested after burglary attempt

A Fayetteville man was arrested Jan. 17 after attempting to break into a storage trailer on Ga. Highway 54 West.

Fayette County Sheriff’s spokesman Brent Rowan said Michael Sean Smith, 18, was arrested Tuesday and charged with criminal attempt to commit burglary.

Rowan said Smith attempted to break into a storage trailer behind the Smith and Davis Clothing store in Hwy. 54 near Tyrone Road. Smith fled the location when the security alarm on the trailer was activated.

Video surveillance used to ID man using stolen card

An Atlanta man has been arrested for stealing a credit card from an automobile parked at Drake Field Jan. 2, police said.

Shannon D. Mingle, 36, of Richardson Street was arrested Jan. 18 and was charged with one count of entering an automobile and four counts of financial identity fraud, police said.

Police were able to get information about where the stolen card was used, and that led to a video surveillance tape of Mingle using the card at one of the stores, police said.
Police were subsequently able to identify Mingle and issue warrants for his arrest. Read More»

2 sought in Walmart auto thefts

Fayetteville police wan to find this man who is suspected of helping steal two vehicles from the local Walmart parking lot. Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Todd Chitwood at 770-719-4224.

Fayetteville police are looking for two men involved in two recent car thefts from the parking lot of the Fayetteville Pavilion Walmart.

Police say the duo may be involved in additional auto thefts, and they are circulating a photo of one of the suspects who was caught on video surveillance at the Walmart store. Read More»

PTC cops arrest shoplifting gang

Peachtree City police arrested a six-member shoplifting gang Wednesday afternoon on charges of shoplifting items from the Peachtree City Walmart store.

Walmart’s loss prevention staff called police about one of the shoplifters, but it was a citizen’s tip on a suspicious vehicle that led officers to make the arrests, police said.

The citizen called in a suspicious gray Nissan Quest minivan with six occupants inside. A short time later, officers stopped the vehicle at 361 Ga. Highway 74 north. Read More»

Deputy halts runaway car near Whitewater Middle

A Fayette County sheriff’s deputy is being lauded for his quick actions to halt a runaway car that drifted off course when its driver became incapacitated Wednesday morning.

Dep. Thomas Mindar was directing early-morning Whitewater Middle School traffic on Ga. Highway 85 south at Christopher Road when he directed the southbound traffic to stop.

That is when Mindar noticed a car rolling past him at a slow rate of speed, its male driver slumped over in an incapacitated state, according to Maj. Bryan Woodie of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Read More»

F’ville sees 3 burglaries, 1 break-in in two days

Three Fayetteville homes were burglarized in a two-day period of Jan. 10 and 11 and a fourth residence experienced a break-in. Stolen in the burglaries were guns, a laptop and a washer and dryer.

The burglary on Jan. 10 occurred on Orchard View off South Jeff Davis Drive. Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw said the homeowner left home at 6:15 pm. and returned just over two hours later.
