Senoia teen identified as murder victim

Newnan Police on Thursday identified the body of a male found Dec. 19 by passers-by in a creek at the SummerGrove residential development as that of 17-year-old Senoia resident Blake Tyler Chappell who had been missing since mid-October.

If you see a group of police officers at McIntosh High School today and through the evening, don’t panic.

It turns out they are there preparing for an emergency drill simulation, officials said.

Specially-invited students are expected to participate in the drill scenario as well, which will give them a bird’s eye view of how law enforcement handles certain situations.

Former F’ville man arrested for sexual battery of elderly family friend

An Atlanta man and former Fayetteville resident has been charged with sexual battery after he fondled an elderly woman who considered him to be a family friend.

Tony Cooper, 54, was charged with sexual battery in an incident that occurred Dec. 16, according to Fayetteville Police spokesman Steve Crawshaw.

Crawshaw said Cooper arrived at the home of an 89-year-old woman to pick up some of her son’s clothes that she was donating to him. Read More»

S’burg man arrested for road test wreck

A Sharpsburg man faced multiple charges earlier this week when he damaged a vehicle while conducting a road test after the car had new tires installed at a Peachtree City tire store.

Robert James Hammond, 22, was charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to maintain lane, according to Maj. James Yarbrough with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. Read More»

Fayette County Sheriff’s deputies arrested three men Dec. 13 in connection with a residential burglary in unincorporated north Fayette County a day earlier.

George Kshawn Hampton, 18, of Fayetteville, was charged with burglary and identity fraud; D’Andre Davon Brown, 19, of Fairburn, was charged with burglary and two counts of identity fraud; and Levon William Alls, II, 18, of Atlanta, was charged him with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, according to sheriff's spokesman Brent Rowan said. Newnan mom, daughters arrested in PTC Walmart purse theft

A Newnan woman and her three daughters were arrested Dec. 1 at the Peachtree City Walmart for snatching a purse in an unattended shopping cart.

Lechell Hendrix, 45, Rebekah Hendrix, 21, and 17-year-old Emily Hendrix, all of Greenville Street in Newnan, were charged with theft by taking, according to Peachtree City Police spokesperson Rosanna Dove.
