PTC cops arrest shoplifting gang

Peachtree City police arrested a six-member shoplifting gang Wednesday afternoon on charges of shoplifting items from the Peachtree City Walmart store.

Walmart’s loss prevention staff called police about one of the shoplifters, but it was a citizen’s tip on a suspicious vehicle that led officers to make the arrests, police said.

The citizen called in a suspicious gray Nissan Quest minivan with six occupants inside. A short time later, officers stopped the vehicle at 361 Ga. Highway 74 north. Read More»

Deputy halts runaway car near Whitewater Middle

A Fayette County sheriff’s deputy is being lauded for his quick actions to halt a runaway car that drifted off course when its driver became incapacitated Wednesday morning.

Dep. Thomas Mindar was directing early-morning Whitewater Middle School traffic on Ga. Highway 85 south at Christopher Road when he directed the southbound traffic to stop.

That is when Mindar noticed a car rolling past him at a slow rate of speed, its male driver slumped over in an incapacitated state, according to Maj. Bryan Woodie of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Read More»

F’ville sees 3 burglaries, 1 break-in in two days

Three Fayetteville homes were burglarized in a two-day period of Jan. 10 and 11 and a fourth residence experienced a break-in. Stolen in the burglaries were guns, a laptop and a washer and dryer.

The burglary on Jan. 10 occurred on Orchard View off South Jeff Davis Drive. Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw said the homeowner left home at 6:15 pm. and returned just over two hours later. The man entered the home through the garage, finding items that had been in a bedroom laying on the floor in another room. Read More»

Armed robbers hit Verizon store at Pavilion

Two masked gunmen Thursday morning robbed the Verizon storeat 105 Promenade Parkway, across from the Fayette Pavilion, and are being sought by Fayetteville Police.

Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw said the armed robbery occurred at 9:12 a.m. as two men described by employees as black males wearing masks and dark clothing entered the store, which is in the same center as FedEx Kinko’s Office Print and Ship store.

Crawshaw said the men produced handguns and demanded cell phones. Read More»

PTC man, 26 , busted in Aberdeen parking lot for meth

A Peachtree City man was arrested Jan. 9 for selling methamphetamine at the Aberdeen Village Shopping Center to an undercover investigator with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT).

Reese J. Neely, 26, of Carradale Court, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of cocaine and sale of methamphetamine, according to sheriff’s spokesman Brent Rowan. Read More»

Griffin man caught after Redwine Road area burglary

A Griffin man on Jan. 7 was caught by Fayetteville Police just minutes after burglarizing a home on Millhaven Landing near Redwine Road.

Stephen Michael Jones, 21, was charged with burglary, obstruction and loitering, according to Fayetteville Police spokesman Steve Crawshaw. Read More»

Atlanta police, friends searching for missing FCHS grad

Atlanta police are investigating the disappearance of a Fayette County High School graduate who was last seen by friends Dec. 27.

Stacey Nicole English, 36, of Buckhead, was reported missing Dec. 31, police said. On top of the police investigation, her family and friends have mounted a campaign to distribute flyers in hopes of encountering anyone with information as to her whereabouts. Read More»

Fayette deputies bust man for burglary, 3 for a/c thefts

Fayette County deputies caught criminal suspects New Year’s week in the act of committing a burglary and thefts of air conditioning units, arresting four persons in two separate incidents.

Deputies on New Year’s Day arrested Jarrod Mathew Callahan, 18, of Fayetteville, and charged him with burglary and carrying a concealed weapon. Read More»
