4 indicted for phony pain clinic

Tyrone location was one of 3 in metro area; owner, docs face federal charges

The August raid on a pain clinic in Tyrone, along with several other locations in the metro Atlanta area, has resulted in four people being indicted on federal drug and money laundering charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Atlanta.

The probe of the AMARC clinic began in 2009 when the federal Drug Enforcement Administration learned that AMARC physicians “prescribed pain pills outside the bounds of legitimate medical practice,” prosecutors said. Read More»

5 homes on F’ville street have back porch screens cut

Five homes on Brittany Chase in Fayetteville were targeted during the late night hours Jan. 13, with homeowners and police searching the neighborhood finding the screens on the back porches cut but with no entries evident.

Fayetteville Police Det. Mike Whitlow said five homes on Brittany Chase off North Jeff Davis Drive had screens cut during the late night hours on Jan. 13. A Peachtree City man, Eldon A. Gresham, Jr., is facing federal prison time after admitting he scammed investors — including many in Fayette County — out of their life savings.

Seller, beware: Teens robbed by prospective buyers of their shoes

Two Henry County teens wanting to sell two pairs of shoes got more than they bargained for Jan. 4 when they became the victims of a robbery after picking up a car full of teens in Jonesboro and were later robbed at gunpoint in a residential area in Fayetteville.

Sad ending turns happy in Fayetteville lost wallet tale

Deputies make holiday drug busts

Members of the Fayette County Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT) arrested three men and confiscated marijuana and cocaine in two holiday busts.

Sheriff’s spokesman Josh Shelton said TNT agents on Dec. 19 arrested 17-year-old Riverdale resident Patrick Wilson and 52-year-old Jonesboro resident Jeffrey Smith on a host of charges that included sale of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance (Vicodin), possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and possession of a pirated DVD. Fayette County deputies found that shots had been fired Jan. 8 as they responded to an alarm call at the H.H. Prince Aga Khan Shia Ismaili Jamatkhana located on Flat Creek Trail off Ga. Highway 54 West. Though four windows were damaged, the worship center was unoccupied at the time of the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 440-461-6353.
