Tipster receives $5K after arsonist convicted

Sometimes it does pay to keep a watchful eye out for crime. An anonymous tipster will be receiving a pay day for providing information that led to the arrest and conviction of a Newnan man on charges of serial arson.

The anonymous tipster will receive $5,000 for providing the information that lead to the recent conviction of Willie Claude Mack, according to Newnan Public Information Officer Gina Snider. Mack was convicted on four counts of intentionally setting four fires on southeast side of downtown Newnan, Snider said. Read More»

Rapist dealt 3 life sentences for assaulting woman

Dressed in a slightly oversized dark pinstriped suit, AbdurRahman Hassan Alwi hung his head.

Minutes earlier the Jonesboro man had been convicted of the assault of a College Park woman in north Fayette County. The victim had been struck multiple times in the face with a pistol and was raped, left behind, naked, and forced to crawl to a nearby residence for help after Alwi and another unidentified assailant left the scene.

Deputies arrest 1 for shooting caregiver in leg; charge 3 for meth, pot

Fayette County deputies over the weekend made a number of arrests for the sale of methamphetamine and marijuana. An additional arrest was made when a caregiver working with handicapped individuals shot a co-worker in the leg.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Narcotics Team on March 21 conducted a drug investigation at the Sunoco station located at 2664 Ga. Highway 92 South that resulted in the arrest of two men, according to Sheriff Barry Babb. Read More»

PTC man arrested after assault, threats

A 20-year-old Peachtree City man was arrested Monday afternoon after assaulting a woman inside his home and threatening to kill her, police said.

Because Albert Ensell Jr., 20, of 234 Twiggs Corner, was armed and reportedly agitated, the police department's Special Response Team was summoned, and a negotiator convinced Ensell to leave the residence where he was arrested peacefully, police said.

Ensell was charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping, false imprisonment, simple battery, making terroristic threats and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, police said. Read More»

Senoia business owner charged with sending nude photo to girl, 14

Senoia business owner Todd Baggarly is facing a misdemeanor charge that involves a nude photo of himself that he purposefully sent to a 14-year-old Senoia girl.

Senoia Police Investigator Jason Ercole said a Senoia resident on Feb. 11 made a complaint to the Senoia Police Dept. alleging that Founders Restaurant owner Todd Baggarly had sent a nude photograph of himself to her 14-year-old daughter via Facebook. Read More»

Woman unharmed in armed robbery attempt at Fayette Pavilion

It was a close call Thursday night for the manager of the PetSmart store at the Fayette Pavilion as she avoided an attempted armed robbery.

Fayetteville Police Det. Mike Whitlow said the manager had closed the store and was leaving at approximately 9:45 p.m. As she approached her vehicle the woman noticed that she had a flat tire, Whitlow said. Read More»

3 Atlanta area teens arrested in Fayette Pavilion carjacking

Two teenage males from Atlanta and one from DeKalb County were taken into custody Thursday after a high-speed chase that began at the Fayette Pavilion as a carjacking and ended near downtown Atlanta after the stolen vehicle was disabled.

The three juveniles, one age 14 and the others age 16, were charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, theft by taking motor vehicle and fleeing and attempting to elude, according to Fayetteville Police Det.
