Man robbed, pistol-whipped in N. Fayette

A man in north Fayette County was robbed of his cell phone and wallet at gunpoint and then pistol-whipped in the early morning hours of Aug. 18.

Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb said the victim was talking on his cell phone outside a Woodside Drive residence near Milam Road at approximately 1 a.m. Aug. 18 when he was approached by a sliver Nissan Maxima.

Babb said a black male approximately 6’0”-6’2” and weighing approximately 160 pounds exited the vehicle carrying a handgun.

The victim saw the handgun and began running, but soon stopped for fear that he would be shot, Babb said. Read More»

Couple nabbed in meth arrests

A Fayette County man and woman were arrested Aug. 7 on charges of drug trafficking after four ounces of methamphetamine were found at their residence on Ga. Highway 54 West.

Members of the sheriff’s Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT) arrested Thomas Burgamy, 39, and Kimberly A. Dubose, 37, on charges of trafficking drugs and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, according to Sheriff Barry Babb. Read More»

iPhone sale leads to robbery

A Fayetteville man attempting to sell an iPhone to a perspective buyer Aug. 9 was the victim of an armed robbery by three men.

Fayetteville police Det. Mike Whitlow said the 21-year-old victim had put the iPhone up for sale on Craigslist and was contacted by a buyer who wanted to meet at the Weatherly Walk apartments on Ga. Highway 54 East.

Once at the scene at approximately 3 p.m., the victim was met by three men demanding that he give them the phone, Whitlow said. Read More»

N. Fayette shooting investigation continues

The investigation into a July 28 incident along Ga. Highway 85 in north Fayette County where shots were fired into a vehicle is ongoing.

Sheriff Barry Babb said deputies responded at approximately 11 p.m. to Clayton County in reference to a person shot. The victim told Clayton County Police that she was shot while driving through north Fayette County, Babb said. Read More»

Charges filed in three dozen auto break-ins

An Atlanta man is in custody and facing a long list of charges of in connection to 37 incidents where vehicles in north Fayette County neighborhoods were entered July 20-23.

Randen Morris, 22, was charged with 31 felony counts of entering auto, according to Sheriff Barry Babb.

Approximately 22 vehicles were entered July 20 while parked at residences in the Shenandoah Estates subdivision off Old Ga. Highway 138, Babb said.

“The majority of the vehicles appear to have been unlocked and small items of value were removed,” Babb said. Read More»

Woman charged with leaving three kids in a hot car

A Riverdale mother on July 30 was charged with leaving her three young girls unattended in a vehicle in a Fayetteville parking lot.

Det. Mike Whitlow said Courtney B. Tabor, 33, was charged with three misdemeanor counts of leaving a minor child unattended, a city ordinance violation.

Whitlow said employees at the Michael’s store at Hudson Plaza on North Glynn Street saw the three small children in the back of a van with no adult visible in the vicinity. Two of the children were one year of age while the other was age two, Whitlow added. Read More»

Update: July 31, 7:45 p.m.- The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on July 31 arrested 22-year-old Randen Morris, of Atlanta, charging him with 31 felony counts of entering auto.

Sheriff Barry Babb said investigators used surveillance footage and other evidence collected to identify Morris and connect these incidents.

Members of the U.S. Marshals South Eastern Regional Fugitive Task Force located Morris in the Bankhead neighborhood of Atlanta and took him into custody, Babb said, Read More»

Homeless man arrested as suspect in child molestation; woman jailed for hindering

A 19-year-old homeless man who occasionally stayed with a Fayette County family was arrested in Richmond County on July 19 on charges of child molestation.

Zenon Rivera was charged with child molestation, according to Sheriff Barry Babb.

Brandi Black, 31, of Peachtree City, was subsequently charged with hindering the apprehension of a fugitive after investigators learned of her involvement in transporting Zenon Rivera to the Augusta area, Babb said.

Babb said a resident on Ga. Highway 54 West on July 17 reported a child molestation incident involving her 12-year-old daughter. Read More»
