Handcuffs awaited fleeing suspect in Dollar Tree

A Jonesboro man was arrested March 13 after fleeing from Fayette County deputies attempting a traffic stop. Deputies found the man in a store in Fulton County where he was arrested on drug charges after a K-9 unit found a bag of marijuana he tossed in the store.

Darrell Johnson, 32, was charged with felony possession of marijuana and felony fleeing and attempting to elude, according to Sheriff Barry Babb. Read More»

Deputy puts stop on mail thieves

The intuition of a sheriff’s deputy on a routine traffic stop March 2 led to the arrest of two men for stealing mail from the Peachtree City Post Office, according to Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.

The two men were pulled over on Ga. Highway 54 near the post office, and the deputy noticed that the duo was acting suspicious, Babb said. Deputies later found the stolen mail inside the vehicle, “preventing countless financial crimes,” Babb said.

The stolen mail contained financial information that could have been used to commit identity fraud, Babb said. Read More»

Senoia cops seek second suspect in pharmacy heists

Warrants have been issued for a second arrest in connection with the July 2013 burglary and Dec. 23 attempted burglary at the Senoia Drug Company on Ga. Highway 16. A North Carolina man is on the run, but officers serving the warrant found enough prescription pain pills and other medications to fill a small pharmacy.

Rico Ussery, 35, of Juliette was arrested March 3 on charges of burglary and attempted burglary in connection with the burglary and attempted burglary at the pharmacy on Hwy. 16, according to Senoia Police Investigator Jason Ercole. Read More»

3 women beat up, rob Decatur man

A Decatur man who travelled to Fayette County on Feb.19 to meet women he met on the Internet got a bit more than he bargained for. After driving the three 18-year-old Fayetteville women to a sparsely populated area of south Fayette County at their request, the man was beaten, robbed, threatened with a knife and had his car stolen.

Brianna Gibson, Keanna Gibson and Allawni Ford were charged with two counts of armed robbery, aggravated assault, hijacking a motor vehicle, and kidnapping, said Sheriff Barry Babb. Keanna Gibson and Brianna Gibson are sisters, Babb said. Read More»

Mailbox theft suspects chased from Tyrone to Coweta

What began March 7 as a report of stealing mail in Tyrone quickly led to a pursuit by Peachtree City Police that continued into Coweta County where Coweta deputies clocked the vehicle at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. The vehicle was disabled by Coweta deputies on Interstate 85 and the two Atlanta residents in the vehicle were taken to the Fayette County Jail.

Shawntay S. Simmons, 26, was charged with financial identity fraud, fleeing or attempting to elude, reckless driving, speeding and obedience to a traffic control device, according to Fayette County Jail records. Read More»

Arrest made in N. Fayette hit-and-run case

Sheriff: Son ran for help after mom was struck by vehicle

A 64-year-old Fayetteville resident has been arrested for driving off after her vehicle struck a woman walking her son to the bus stop in north Fayette County Tuesday morning, sheriff’s officials said.

Verolyn Kennebrew was charged today with felony hit and run and also failure to maintain lane, according to Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.

The victim and her son were walking to the bus stop in the Princeton Chase subdivision off Ga. Highway 314 when the incident happened around 6:50 a.m., Babb said. Read More»
