Kohl’s assailant gets 17 years for mugging woman

A Jonesboro man pled guilty in court last week to attacking and robbing a woman at the Kohl’s Department Store at the Fayette Pavilion April 27 and later using her credit cards that were in the purse he stole from her.

Zaquaus Troyon Stubbs, 20, was sentenced by Fayette County Superior Court Judge Tommy R. Hankinson to 17 years in prison followed by five years on probation.

Prosecutors had planned to present evidence that the crime was gang-related, according to court documents. Read More»

Man gets 40 years for 2 armed robberies on the same day

A Fayette County jury Tuesday afternoon convicted a Fayetteville man for robbing two businesses in town April 14, 2011.

Anthony Craig Dobson, 46, of Beacon Drive was sentenced to 40 years in prison by Fayette County Superior Court Judge Christopher C. Edwards.

Dobson was convicted of two counts of armed robbery for incidents at Jan’s Flower Shop on Ga. Highway 85 south and the Rite-Aid pharmacy on Ga. Highway 54 near Gingercake Road. Read More»

Senoia cops cuff man for 100mph chase

A Senoia man faces multiple charges after a Sept. 25 high-speed chase that began and ended in Senoia after he raced through portions of Coweta and Fayette counties at speeds up to 100 miles per hour.

Jeremiah Baker, 24, of Senoia, was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving, driving with a suspended license, failure to obey a stop sign and failure to dim lights, according to Senoia police spokesman Jason Ercole. Read More»

2 other suspects arrested after phone grabbed from woman's car in AT&T store parking lot

Fayetteville police are looking for a 20-year-old Hampton man suspected of stealing an iPhone from a 57-year-old woman outside the AT&T store at the Fayette Pavilion shopping center Sept. 25.

Marquis Raphiel Jackson, 20, will be charged with robbery by sudden snatching, police said. Two others who aided in the crime were arrested after police spotted a second vehicle that was involved, police said. Read More»

2 men charged with burglary after fleeing cops

A Fayetteville man and one from Hampton have been arrested on charges of burglary in connection to a Sept. 14 break-in in south Fayette County.

Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb said 24-year-old Robert Gosdin, of Fayetteville, and 23-year-old Hampton resident Robert Thompson were charged with burglary and obstruction.

Babb said a deputy at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 14 observed a suspicious vehicle behind a closed business on Ga. Highway 92 near Hillsbridge Road in south Fayette. The deputy was on patrol when he saw the suspicious SUV parked behind the building, Babb said. Read More»

Deputies nab man for burglary in S. Fayette

A Jonesboro man has been charged in connection to a Sept. 20 residential burglary in south Fayette County.

Anthony Alan Hanare, 19, was charged with one count of burglary, Babb said.

Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb said deputies on Sept. 20 responded to a burglary on Burkwood Court off Ga. Highway 85 South. The victim stated that their door had been forced open and several items were taken from inside the home, Babb said.

Man pleads guilty to PTC. apt. shooting

A Newnan man pled guilty last week to shooting a Peachtree City man at the Camden Apartments off MacDuff Parkway last June.

Joel Alan Chambers was sentenced by Fayette County Superior Court Judge Fletcher Sams to three years in prison followed by 17 years on probation.

Chambers, 49, of Medallion Park in Newnan was arrested June 23, 2013 after getting into an argument with Robert Lee Thompson Jr. and shooting him in the chest, police said. Read More»

Pot deal goes bad; 1 man dead, 1 charged with murder

An altercation over what appeared to be a Sept. 14 drug transaction in north Fayette County resulted in the shooting death of an Atlanta man by a 25-year-old Union City man who has been charged with felony murder, law officers said.

Kevin Jemario Pope, 25, of Union City, was charged with felony murder, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to Sheriff Barry Babb. Read More»
