SCHS coach resigns following drug arrest

Sandy Creek High School teacher Andrew Parlagreco resigned last month after being charged in Cherokee County in July with misdemeanor possession of marijuana.

A resident of Canton, Parlagreco was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and a headlight violation in Cherokee County on July 21, according to media reports.

Parlagreco was intended to be the head boys soccer coach at Sandy Creek for the upcoming season that begins in January. Read More»

Cyclist injured in PTC cart collision

A young golf cart driver has been cited for a crash that injured a cyclist on McIntosh Trail near Huddleston Elementary in Peachtree City Sunday afternoon, police said.

The driver, who was 15, was on the crosswalk and pulled into the path of the bike around 5:30 p.m., according to Peachtree City Police Lt. Mark Brown.

The cyclist, identified as Amy Hill of Sharpsburg, was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment, police said. Read More»

2 Chopstix robbers on the run

Fayetteville police are searching for two men who robbed the employees of the Golden Chopstix restaurant in Fayetteville at gunpoint Oct. 3 and made off with an undetermined amount of cash.

Fayetteville Det. Mike Whitlow said two black males, one wearing a skull mask and the other wearing a blue hoodie pulled over his head, entered the restaurant through the back door at approximately 9:15 p.m. Thursday. Both men were carrying handguns, Whitlow said. Read More»

Man cuffed on charges of beating 2 women

A domestic incident Tuesday morning in Fayetteville resulted in two women being injured and their alleged assailant taken into custody after being followed and stopped by investigators in a vehicle on Ga. Highway 54 West.

Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb said 40-year-old Robert Scott Kelly, of Sharon Drive, Fayetteville, is in custody. No charges had been filed by press time Tuesday.

Alleged AT&T phone mugger arrested

he Hampton man who robbed a customer at the AT&T store in Fayetteville on Sept. 25 is in custody. He initially eluded attempts to capture him but was subsequently apprehended by the Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Man shot in leg after north Fayette party fracas

Shots from a moving vehicle rang out as a party was breaking up in the early morning hours Sunday off New Hope Road in north Fayette County, and one man was wounded in the leg, according to Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.

The leg wound was not life-threatening to the 20-year-old male, Babb said.

The Saturday night party on Victor Lane was attended by people in their late teens and 20s and was breaking up at approximately 3:25 a.m. when an altercation ensued, Babb said.

Some of the people were leaving and another group was staying at the residence, the sheriff said. Read More»

Man, 23, gets 20 years for meth trafficking

A Fayetteville man has been convicted of trafficking in methamphetamine for helping arrange a proposed sale of 28 grams of crystal “ice” to an undercover sheriff’s deputy Nov. 29, 2011.

Justin Kyle Hampton, 23, of Jefferson Avenue was convicted Thursday and sentenced to 20 years in prison followed by 10 years on probation along with a $200,000 fine issued by Fayette County Superior Court Judge Tommy R. Hankinson. Read More»
