Judge sends PTC teen to prison on cart theft charges following new arrest for sex crime

A Peachtree City teenager was sent to prison for five years after his probation was revoked Wednesday based on an alleged sex crime involving a 14-year-old girl.

Joshua Phillip Mobley, 19, of Wisdom Road, has only been charged at this point with aggravated child molestation, but Fayette County Superior Court Judge Christopher Edwards ruled there was enough evidence to determine he had violated his conditions of probation from an incident last year involving a stolen golf cart. Burglars strike 28 self-storage units

Fayette County Sheriff’s Office investigators want to locate the person or persons responsible for a break-in last week at a self-storage facility on North Glynn Street in Fayetteville where 28 storage units were entered.

Sheriff Barry Babb said the perpetrators forced entry into 28 storage units, of which four were unoccupied, and removed some of the contents.

“The crimes are classified as burglary in the 2nd degree as they are not designed for living, but the perpetrator entered each compartment and committed a theft therein,” Babb said. Read More»

Cops find China Cafe fatal robbery getaway car in Athens

The vehicle used in the Oct. 11 deadly armed robbery of the China Cafe in Fayetteville has been found at an apartment complex in Athens, 93 miles away. Fayetteville investigators processed the vehicle and found undisclosed evidence relating to the robbery.

Two of the robbers are now dead, while a cafe employee is being treated for a gunshot wound.

The incident at the China Cafe on North Glynn Street occurred at at approximately 11 p.m. on Oct. 11 when two men brandishing handguns entered the rear door of the restaurant and held three employees at gunpoint. Read More»

5 burglaries charged to F’ville man

A Fayetteville man linked to five recent burglaries in unincorporated Fayette County was arrested Oct. 24 after being located by Fayette County deputies responding to a burglary in progress call to 911.

Brantley T. Vinci, 34, of Rosedell Court, was charged in five burglaries in Fayette County, though other charges are pending, said Sheriff Barry Babb.

“We have good evidence against Vinci in these burglaries and are continuing to build the case and any other connections to more crimes if supported,” Babb said Monday. Read More»

Fayette man arrested in F'ville armed robbery

An armed robbery early Monday morning at the BP station at 450 North Glynn Street in Fayetteville left the store’s employee injured after being beaten in the head with a metal pipe. A Fayette County man was arrested a short time later in south Fulton County and has been charged with the armed robbery and aggravated assault.

China Cafe robbery suspect shoots himself before capture

Faced with a potential murder charge for participating in the Oct. 11 armed robbery and shootout at the China Cafe in Fayetteville, Leandro Bernard Johnson, 27, surely knew his days as a free man were over.

Instead of surrendering to a group of armed marshals Tuesday morning, Johnson ended his own life with a single gunshot wound to the head, officials said.

His lifeless body, a handgun laying beside it, was found in the closet of a relative’s apartment in Covington, according to U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force Supervisor Jim Joyner. Read More»

Burglaries on sharp rise in north Fayette

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a number of burglaries that occurred in north Fayette during October.

“In the month of October, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has responded to several burglaries in the northern half of Fayette County. A total of 14 burglaries have been reported and are being investigated by sheriff’s detectives,” said Sheriff Barry Babb.

Babb said the burglaries have been occurring during the daylight hours and mostly on weekdays when people are away at work. Read More»
