5 burglaries charged to F’ville man

A Fayetteville man linked to five recent burglaries in unincorporated Fayette County was arrested Oct. 24 after being located by Fayette County deputies responding to a burglary in progress call to 911.

Brantley T. Vinci, 34, of Rosedell Court, was charged in five burglaries in Fayette County, though other charges are pending, said Sheriff Barry Babb.

“We have good evidence against Vinci in these burglaries and are continuing to build the case and any other connections to more crimes if supported,” Babb said Monday. Read More»

Fayette man arrested in F'ville armed robbery

An armed robbery early Monday morning at the BP station at 450 North Glynn Street in Fayetteville left the store’s employee injured after being beaten in the head with a metal pipe. A Fayette County man was arrested a short time later in south Fulton County and has been charged with the armed robbery and aggravated assault.

William Paul, 33, of Hilo Road south of Fayetteville, was charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and battery, according to Fayetteville Det. Mike Whitlow. Read More»

China Cafe robbery suspect shoots himself before capture

Faced with a potential murder charge for participating in the Oct. 11 armed robbery and shootout at the China Cafe in Fayetteville, Leandro Bernard Johnson, 27, surely knew his days as a free man were over.

Instead of surrendering to a group of armed marshals Tuesday morning, Johnson ended his own life with a single gunshot wound to the head, officials said.

His lifeless body, a handgun laying beside it, was found in the closet of a relative’s apartment in Covington, according to U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force Supervisor Jim Joyner. Read More»

Burglaries on sharp rise in north Fayette

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a number of burglaries that occurred in north Fayette during October.

“In the month of October, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office has responded to several burglaries in the northern half of Fayette County. A total of 14 burglaries have been reported and are being investigated by sheriff’s detectives,” said Sheriff Barry Babb.

Babb said the burglaries have been occurring during the daylight hours and mostly on weekdays when people are away at work. Read More»

2 Fayette fugitives arrested by Panama City Beach officers

A man and woman wanted in Fayette County were arrested in Panama City Beach Oct. 8 after investigators with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office alerted Panama City Beach detectives.

Ashley Baxley, 26, of College Park, and Joshua Christmas, 27, of College Park, were wanted on warrants out of Fayette County for theft by taking, according to Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.

Investigators in Fayette County obtained warrants for Christmas and Baxley in connection with a motorcycle stolen in north Fayette County on Aug. 29, Babb said. The motorcycle was subsequently recovered, Babb added. Read More»

Man jailed; woman, 82, in critical condition after being beaten with pliers

An 82-year-old relative of Fayetteville resident Robert Scott Kelly is still in critical condition at Grady Hospital after allegedly being beaten by Kelly with a pair of pliers last week. Another relative and a family friend were also beaten a short time before Kelly was arrested on Ga. Highway 54 on the city’s west side, police said.

Kelly, 40, was charged with two counts of criminal attempt to commit murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of aggravated battery and felony criminal damage, said Sheriff Barry Babb. Read More»
