Burglar admits breaking into house, but says it was to escape shooters

The attorney for a 62-year-old Fayetteville man admitted Monday that his client broke into a neighbor’s basement, damaging a window and two doors.

But the resulting damage did not cross the $500 threshold and so William Michael Meyer is asking for a misdemeanor verdict of criminal trespassing instead, attorney Paul Liston told a jury in Fayette County Superior Court.

Teen, 17, charged with vehicular homicide in Aug. 10 wreck

Seventeen-year-old Fayetteville resident Joshua M. Staley has been charged with second-degree vehicular homicide resulting from an Aug. 10 traffic collision on Ga. Highway 54 in Fayetteville where 17-year-old Fayetteville resident Malcom Williams was killed.

Staley was charged Sept. 6 with second-degree homicide by vehicle and failure to obey a traffic control device, according to law enforcement reports.

Hole-in-the-wall peeper nabbed in PTC thrift store

A 23 year-old Covington man was arrested Aug. 31 after he was found to be watching through a hole in the fitting room wall at A Better Way Bargains Thrift Store in Peachtree City while a female customer changed clothes.

Andrew Thomas Payne, of Covington, was charged with peeping tom, according to reports.

An Aug. 31 police report on the incident said an officer arrived at A Better Way Bargains Thrift Store on Dividend Drive at approximately 11:50 a.m. and met with the store manager and a female shopper in response to a call about suspicious activity. Read More»

Girl shot inside moving vehicle on Hwy. 138

Fayette County Sheriff’s Office investigators made an arrest on Sept. 1 in connection with a 15-year-old girl from Fulton County being shot earlier that day inside a moving vehicle on Ga. Highway 138 in north Fayette County.

Sheriff’s spokesman Brent Rowan said investigators arrested a 16-year-old Fairburn girl on charges of reckless conduct and possession of a firearm by a person under the age 18. Read More»

4 teens charged with robbing 2 Fayette County H.S. students on campus

Four students have been arrested and charged with preying on other students in the last couple of weeks at Fayette County High School in Fayetteville.

The four male students snatched a purse and a cellphone from two other students on the FCHS campus, police said. Charges include robbery, theft and gang activity. Read More»

Fairburn man arrested for child molestation

A Fairburn man has been arrested on child molestation charges by Fayette County Sheriff’s investigators in a case where the molestation occurred over a two-year period.

Fayette County Sheriff’s spokesman Brent Rowan said investigators on Aug. 28 arrested 24 year-old Fairburn resident Christian Dionta Evans on charges of child molestation and aggravated child molestation.

Rowan said the arrest was connection with a child molestation case which occurred between a two year period of 2011 and 2012. Read More»

Tanning salon peeper gets probation, 2 others plead to drug charges

A Peachtree City man pled guilty in court Tuesday to spying on a 16-year-old girl who was undressing inside a tanning salon back in April.

Joseph W. Havey, 59, of Hamden Kells pled guilty to one felony count of peeping tom and was sentenced to five years probation with the first year being on intensive probation. Fayette County Superior Court Judge Robert “Mack” Crawford also fined Havey $1,000 and ordered him to submit to a sexual evaluation and treatment if probation officers determine that is necessary.

Havey also must serve 96 hours of community service to fulfill his sentence. Read More»
