Caregiver admits to slapping disabled client who later died, gets 6 months

A Fayetteville woman admitted in court Sept. 17 that she slapped a young disabled woman in the face to whom she had given care for over nine years. Testimony also revealed that Gayle Powers Elsholz was verbally denigrating the victim at the same time.

The victim, Laura Michelle Smith, was unable to defend herself because she could not physically move, nor could she even talk. Fortunately her mother happened to return home just as the Jan. 17 incident occurred. Read More»

Already serving a 30-year prison sentence for a home invasion in northwest Fayette County last year, Arnold Alexander Floyd Jr. just keeps adding to his criminal record.

Floyd, 21, and a resident of the Hancock State Prison, was back at the Fayette County Jail last week, scheduled to face trial for damaging a jail sprinkler head and defacing a jail jumpsuit back in January.

On Sunday, Floyd tried unsuccessfully to escape from the jail, bolting down a hallway while he was being moved from one secure area of the jail to another, said Jail Administrator Capt. Charlie Cowart. Read More»

Decatur woman arrested in N. Fayette hit and run

A Decatur woman was arrested Monday morning in south Fayette County on charges of hit and run after colliding with another vehicle on Sandy Creek Road.

Tamika C. Marcus, 23, of Decatur was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, reckless driving and failure to obey a stop sign.

5 teens charged with gang activity after thefts at Fayette Co. High

It began in recent weeks with four Fayette County students arrested on theft charges after incidents at Fayette County High School in Fayetteville.

The situation now has changed, with a total of five arrested on charges related to their participation in what Fayetteville Police said is called the “Finesse” gang.

Illegal car scrapper gets prison time

An Atlanta man wil serve three years in prison for selling four stolen automobiles to auto salvage yards in Fayette County.

Brandon Ramon Cooper, 29, of Langston Avenue entered a guilty plea in court Monday to four counts of theft by receiving stolen property and was sentenced by Fayette County Superior Court Judge Fletcher W. Sams.

Cooper was ordered to pay a $2,000 fine and $6,300 in restitution to the four victims in the case. Read More»

One of the burglars whose getaway car was disabled by a quick-shooting Peachtree City homeowner in March has pled guilty to three counts of burglary.

PTC man arrested on multiple charges of sexual crimes involving young girl

Update - Thursday 4 p.m.: It has been confirmed by Pennsylvania authorities that a Peachtree City man arrested Sept. 12 on warrants from that state listing a multitude of charges of deviant sexual acts with children dealt with the repeated rape of a young girl over a four-year period.

Peachtree City Police spokesperson Rosanna Dove said 57 year-old Christopher Jackson Carter, of Wisdom Circle, was arrested Sept. 12 on outstanding warrants stemming from an ongoing investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Pennsylvania State Trooper Craig Vanlouvender on Thursday said the repeated sexual offenses took place between 1990-1994 and involved a young girl who was 4 years of age when the crimes first occurred.
