Fayette County law enforcement arrest reports — Sept. 18 – Sept. 24

The following arrests were reported by local law enforcement agencies for the past week. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty.

Tuesday, Sept. 18 - Monday, Sept. 24

Nicholas J. Bush, 26, of Bristol Court, Fayetteville, for seatbelt violation and revoked or suspended license.

Jason J. Gaudette, 24, of Chadwick Drive, Peachtree City, for probation/parole violation.

Alman S. Cato, 34, of Green Valley Drive, Riverdale, for less than an ounce of marijuana. Read More»

Jimenez gets life in prison without parole for killing wife

Fayette County prosecutor Warren Sellers briefly displayed a large kitchen knife Thursday as he argued that Jesus Ojeda Jimenez should be convicted for brutally stabbing his wife nine times and then leaving her to die in front of their three young children at the Landmark Mobile Home Park Jan. 20.

While that knife was the instrument that killed Liliana Ruiz, it also helped convict Jimenez for the heinous crime. After turning himself in to authorities, Jimenez admitted to Fayette County detectives that he had used the knife to stab Ruiz. Read More»

Judge delays sentencing for future date

A Hampton man was convicted Thursday for raping a 24-year-old woman who suffers from Down Syndrome.

William Jeffrey Dumas, of New Hope Road in Hampton, was found guilty of two counts of rape and one count of aggravated sodomy for the October 2011 incidents that occurred at a home just outside of the Fayetteville city limits.

Dumas did not testify in his own defense, but the jury heard evidence that when he was first interviewed by sheriff’s detectives, he claimed the victim had made similar accusations against someone else in the past. Read More»

Jury in murder trial of illegal immigrant hears child’s 9-1-1 call

After watching his father stab his mother multiple times Jan. 20, their then-9-year-old son went to a neighbor’s house in the Landmark Mobile Home Park and called 911.

“My dad stabbed my mom,” the child told a 911 operator in a recording played for a jury in Fayette County Superior Court Tuesday. The operator asked if it was an accident, and the child replied “no.” Read More»

Defense attorney says client is innocent and evidence does not link him to alleged crime

A Hampton man is on trial this week for allegedly raping a 24-year-old woman who has Down syndrome.

The attorney for William Jeffrey Dumas told a Fayette County jury today that Dumas is not guilty, and he indicated that the victim may have fabricated the alleged incidents.
Dumas is on trial for two counts of rape and one count of aggravated sodomy.

District Attorney Scott Ballard told the jury that a doctor will testify that an examination of the victim following the October 2010 incident showed an injury that is “consistent with forcible intercourse.” Read More»
