Argument leads to arrest at Marnelle

An altercation March 11 at Marnelle Mobile Home Park on Ga. Highway 54 resulted in charges of aggravated assault, interference with a 911 call and criminal trespass for 32-year-old Daniel Keith Stephens.

The incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. as a domestic situation between Stephens and two other persons, said Fayette Sheriff’s spokesperson Brent Rowan. Stephens resided with the pair, he added. Read More»

Two men sought in Rite-Aid robbery

Two men are being sought in the Sunday night robbery of the Rite-Aid pharmacy on South Glynn Street in Fayetteville.

Fayetteville Police spokesperson Steve Crawshaw said two black men entered the store at 9:46 p.m., grabbed the manager and demanded money. The men were described as 5’6”-5’8” and 5’4”-5’6” in height, said Crawshaw. The men wore dark blue or black pants and hoodies and wore ski masks, Crawshaw said.

Information on the location of the money and the amount taken was not available, Crawshaw said. Read More»

Former Tyrone cop arrested for child molestation

Former Tyrone police officer Matthew New was arrested March 11 by investigators with the Fayetteville Police Department on 41 charges involving children, including child molestation and aggravated sexual battery. New resigned his position in Tyrone in late February while under investigation for unrelated policy violations.

The 38-year-old Fayetteville resident was arrested on the basis of an investigation by Fayetteville police that began Feb. 2, said Chief Steve Heaton. The former Tyrone officer was initially arrested on two charges of child molestation, Heaton said. Read More»

Arrests in separate kidnapping, molestation cases

An investigation that began in October concerning two women who kidnapped and robbed an elderly north Fayette woman after claiming to be police officers has resulted in one arrest. In another case, an Ashburn man has been charged with aggravated child molestation.

Paula Aurelia Youngblood, 55, of Birmingham, Ala., has been charged with impersonating an officer, kidnapping and robbery, according to Fayette County Sheriffs Office spokesperson Brent Rowan. Read More»
