Fayette County law enforcement arrest reports — Nov. 6-12

The following arrests were reported by local law enforcement agencies for the past week. All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty. Rather than the age of those arrested, only the year of birth will be indicated below due to law enforcement procedural changes.

Man gets 30 years for shaken baby death

A Franklin man pled guilty Thursday to causing the death of a five-month-old baby whom he was babysitting at a home in north Fayette County in February 2011.

Steven Anthony Haire, 24, was sentenced to 30 years in prison by Fayette County Superior Court Judge Tommy Hankinson. The negotiated plea allowed for the infant’s parents to be spared having to relive the child’s death at trial, according to Fayette County Assistant District Attorney Warren Sellers. Read More»

Newnan man guilty in drug trafficking case

A 26-year-old Newnan man on Nov. 9 was found guilty of trafficking in cocaine in Coweta County Superior Court and will serve 15 years in prison. The case stemmed from a bust at a Newnan hotel last Christmas Eve.

Robert Beasley was sentenced by Judge Jack Kirby to 30 years. Beasley will serve 15 years and received a $200,000 fine for trafficking in cocaine, according to Assistant District Attorney Timothy Marlow. Also found guilty in the case and sentenced to 10 years probation and a $2,500 fine for cocaine possession was 21-year-old Newnan resident Kayla Stewart, Marlow said. Read More»

Special needs teacher gets 15 yrs. probation in sex plea

The 30-year-old contractor teacher who worked at Northgate High School and was charged in May 2011 with the molestation of a 16-year-old former special needs student has received 15 years probation in Coweta County Superior Court.

The ruling by Superior Court Judge Jack Kirby on Monday followed a non-negotiated plea by Dorothy Elizabeth Dixon to one count of sexual assault on a student, according to Coweta County Assistant District Attorney Timothy Marlow. Read More»

College Park woman arrested in F’ville robbery

A College Park woman was arrested Wednesday morning after producing a robbery note at the Publix store at the Fayette Pavilion and being apprehended a short time later by officers who found her walking in the area.

Keri Lynn Moreland, 38, of College Park, was charged with armed robbery, according to Fayetteville Police spokesman Steve Crawshaw. Read More»

DA Ballard upset after rapist of disabled woman gets 25 years

A Hampton man will serve all 25 years of a prison sentence he received last week for raping a 24-year-old woman who suffers from Down Syndrome at a Fayetteville home one year ago.

Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard said he was disappointed by the verdict because it was the minimum sentence allowed by law.

Although the defendant, William Jeffrey Dumas of New Hope Road in Hampton, will serve the sentence without parole, Ballard was hoping for a much stronger sentence given the victim’s condition as an aggravating circumstance in the case. Read More»

Hampton man gets 25 years for raping Down Syndrome victim

A Hampton man will serve 25 years in prison for raping a 24-year-old woman who suffers from Down Syndrome at a Fayetteville home one year ago.

William Jeffrey Dumas, of New Hope Road in Hampton, was sentenced Tuesday afternoon to the minimum penalty allowed by law, according to District Attorney Scott Ballard. He will have to serve all 25 years without parole, however.

The sentence was ordered by guest Superior Court Judge Christopher McFadden, who is a member of the Georgia Court of Appeals. Read More»

Man, 19, charged with molesting girl, 15, beginning when she was 12

A report to a Fayette County School Resource Officer in early October led to the arrest Oct. 26 of a Jonesboro man on charges of aggravated child molestation.

Daniel Lee Wenzel, 19, was charged with child molestation and aggravated child molestation, according to Fayette County Sheriff’s spokesman Brent Rowan. Read More»
