2 Fayette men charged with arson

Two Fayette County men have been charged with arson in relation to a May 20 house fire on Lester Road.

Arrested May 23 on first-degree arson charges were Gerald Stout Bryan, 76, and David Gerald Samuel Bryan, 25, said Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb. The men were arrested following an investigation conducted by the Fayette Fire Marshall’s Office and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

State warns of 'health survey' phone scam

Several residents have complained to the Georgia Department of Public Health about suspicious phone calls purporting to be surveys “from the health department.”

The caller asks questions on ethnicity and religion, among others, and may be trying to sell goods or services. DPH’s Office of the Inspector General is investigating the phone calls.

DPH does occasionally use telephone surveys but will never ask for religious or credit card information and will never try to sell goods or services, officials said. Read More»

Info sought on cart path hit and run

A Peachtree City woman is concerned about a crash on the golf cart path that caused severe damage to the rear of the cart May 25.

Christian Swann said her daughter was driving by the boat docks on Lake Peachtree near Battery Way when she was rear-ended by another golf cart. The other cart, believed to be a gray Club Car model driven by a male between 15-19 years old, left the scene, Swann said.

The crash knocked Swann’s cart a few feet off the path, she said. Read More»

McIntosh grad killed in Atlanta robbery

A former Peachtree City man was shot to death during a robbery not far from his home in East Atlanta Village this past weekend.

Patrick Cotrona, a 1998 graduate of McIntosh High School, was one of three men accosted by an armed gunman during the attack, according to his older sister, Kate Cotrona Krumm. One of Cotrona’s friends was shot in the leg, but not until he was able to use pepper spray to fend off the assailant, she said. Read More»

Friday attack killed Jessica Tolbert of Fayetteville; suspect in custody at Fayette jail

An Oxford man is charged with murdering a Fayetteville woman after forcing his way into her parents’ home and stabbing her multiple times early Friday evening, according to Fayette County Sheriff Barry Babb.

Jessica Tolbert, 29, was pronounced dead at Piedmont Fayette Hospital shortly after the incident, Babb said. Her alleged attacker, Terry Bernard Davis, 45, was arrested Saturday morning at 3:45 a.m. in Atlanta with the help of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, Babb said.

The Jonesboro man arrested May 8 for the assault of a woman outside the Kohl’s department store at the Fayette Pavilion on April 27 is facing multiple charges that include robbery and financial transaction card theft. The victim’s husband last week said he was grateful for the public assistance which led to the arrest.
