Charter Bank to close PTC office

It has been more than five years since West Point-based Charter Bank opened an office in Fayette County. But that office located in Peachtree City is set to close in late September.

Regional president Ashley Schubert in a recent letter to customers said Charter has determined that maintaining a retail branch office in Peachtree City is not economically feasible, adding that Charter will exit the Fayette County market on Sept. 26. Read More»

PTC Council: ‘No’ to major westside changes

The Fayette Chamber of Commerce honored the Leadership Fayette Class of 2014 at a luncheon and graduation ceremony Aug. 21. The class comprised Fayette County business and community leaders who participated in the eight-month leadership program designed to increase their knowledge and awareness of how our community works and build relationships with local leaders. Bypass extension work to begin later this month

The transportation landscape on Newnan’s southeast side is about to undergo a transformation. Crews are set to begin work on a project that will extend the four-lane Newnan Crossing Bypass south to Ga. Highway 16 and U.S. Highway 29. The area along Hwy. 29 will also be upgraded from Interstate 85 to Pine Road.

The project will have Newan Crossing Bypass extended from Turkey Creek Road to the north for a distance of approximately 1.7 miles down to Hwy.16 where it will intersect just west of East Gordon Road. The entire span of the roadway will include four lanes and a median. Read More»

Shopping center planned for Newnan Bypass

The economic climate in Coweta County continues to improve. Evidence of that reality will come Aug. 19 when county commissioners conduct a public hearing on a proposal that would create nearly 163,000 square feet of retail and office space along Newnan Bypass East at Poplar Road.

Located primarily on the east side of the bypass, the majority of the 79.38 acres is situated south of Poplar Road, north of Turkey Creek Road and immediately west of Interstate 85. Read More»

Jobless rate on the rise in Fayette and Coweta

Jobless numbers in Fayette and Coweta counties in June continued to go in the wrong direction. Coweta County in June had an unemployment rate of 7.2 percent while the jobless rate in Fayette County was 7.1 percent.

The Ga. Dept. of Labor (DOL) on July 24 announced that the unemployment rate for Fayette in June was 7.1 percent, up from 6.8 percent in May and 6.1 percent in April.

Similarly in Coweta, the June jobless rate was 7.2 percent. That compares to a 7 percent rate in May and a rate of 6.2 percent in April. Read More»

Tractor Supply Co. picks F’ville for its new location

The landscape at Fayetteville Corners on North Glynn Street in Fayetteville, specifically the old Walmart location, will soon have a new look and a new business. Tractor Supply Co. is establishing its first Fayette County location at the site.

Revised elevations for the business were approved July 22 by the Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission.

The project will include 31,000 square feet of store space and 6,900 square feet of exterior sales space with an enclosed fence. Plans call for eliminating 35 parking spaces to accommodate an additional fenced area. Read More»

Cost of Fayette Vision: $850K

Fayette Visioning Initiative Co-chair Bob Ross revealed two dozen “to-do’s” with a price tag of approximately $850,000 to about 100 residents who attended a climactic vision meeting at the Dolce in Peachtree City last week.

Ross’s presentation outlined the findings and recommendations of the initiative that began last October.

The committee recommends focusing on initiatives in the areas of community, place, education and economy and monitoring 24 areas of progress. Read More»

Fayette offered as pilot test site for driverless vehicles
