‘Small Business Saturday’ set for Nov. 24

Thanksgiving is upon us, and that means the Christmas shopping season is ready to kick off. Everybody knows that “Black Friday” is the official first day of Christmas shopping that occurs the day after Thanksgiving, but how many people know about “Small Business Saturday?”

Small Business Saturday will take place Saturday, Nov. 24, the day after Black Friday. The day is designed to drive shoppers to local merchants on one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year. Industrial pioneer Paschall honored for 50 years in PTC

This year, one of Peachtree City’s pioneering companies is marking its 50th anniversary of operations here.

Monday morning, the employees of Norman W. Paschall Inc. also celebrated the 93rd birthday of their founder, Norman “Zeke” Paschall.

The boss was caught by surprise with a brief ceremony in which he was presented a proclamation from the city by Mayor Pro-Tem Kim Learnard. The backdrop of the presentation was the company’s unofficial “wall of fame” containing photographs of employees who worked between 20 and 50 years for the company. Read More»

PTC ready for long lines as businesses required to show ID in person

Peachtree City Hall is geared up for long lines anticipated this week thanks to a new change in state law that requires a business representative to present their identification in person so it can be checked for their immigration status. Read More»

Jobless rate falls in Coweta, Fayette

It’s pretty good news for a recession that just keeps hanging on. September’s unemployment figures for Coweta County showed a decrease of nearly a percentage point to 7.8 percent while the rate in Fayette County fell half a percentage point to 7.3 percent. Read More»

RaceTrac construction cranks up on 54W

Work is underway on the RaceTrac convenience store on Ga. Highway 54 west between Planterra Way and Line Creek Drive.

The landscape plan for the site was approved by the planning commission Oct. 22, with no less than eight canopy trees required for a 30-foot wide buffer along the highway.

The plan meets or exceeds the city’s requirements and the majority of the remaining plant material will be installed at the perimeter of the parking area, according to a memo prepared by city staff. Read More»

Alzheimer’s care facility coming to Brandywine Blvd. in F’ville

It has been a few years since any significant economic development has surfaced in recession-battered Fayetteville. But things are changing on Brandywine Boulevard off Ga. Highway 54 West with the grading on 4.33 acres that will be the site next spring of the Hope Assisted Living and Memory Care Center.

Company founder Earl Schoepf said the center will specialize in dementia care, with an emphasis on residents with Alzheimer’s disease.

The Clayton State University and The University of West Georgia Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) successfully completed their first GrowSmart series on Sept. 18, at the Clayton State – Fayette instructional site.  

The GrowSmart program was broken down into six sessions for small business owners/managers: planning for growth; marketing: research, planning & implementation; leadership & management; financial analysis, tools & resources; and operations. PTC company up for international award

An international company located in Peachtree City has been named a finalist for the fourth annual Governor’s International Awards.

Aventure Aviation is nominated in the International Trade Category, which recognizes companies that have had the greatest impact in Georgia through their import and export activities since Jan. 1, 2011.

As of August of this year, exports have accounted for 72 percent of Aventure’s sales. Read More»
