Coweta and Newnan show drop in unemployment

Newnan and Coweta County may have turned the corner on escalating unemployment rates. The county jobless rate in March dropped to 10.8 percent, while in Newnan the rate fell to 11.8 percent.

In Coweta, the March unemployment rate dropped to 10.8 percent from the 11.2 percent figure in February. Coweta’s unemployment rate was 8.5 percent a year ago. The lower unemployment rate translates into 6,471 people without jobs in a workforce of 59,737. Read More»

AT&T activates new 3G wireless site in east Coweta

AT&T Wireless customers in east Coweta County should see a boost in their service with the activation last week of a new 3G wireless cell site. The site will provide new coverage for area residents and businesses between Sharpsburg and Peachtree City along Ga. Highway 54 and on Ga. Judge rules Starship can open

The Starship Adult Novelties and Gifts location on Ga. Highway 34 at Thomas Crossroads was given the go-ahead to obtain its business license April 19 after the company had its day in Coweta County Superior Court.

It was a long time in the making, but all that ended April 19 when Coweta County Superior Court Judge Jack Kirby ruled in favor of Starship Enterprises in its lawsuit against Coweta County after county commissioners last year denied a business license to the Starship Adult Novelties and Gifts location on Ga. SCORE volunteers see clients on Fridays in Fayette County

The Fayette Chamber of Commerce encourages small businesses to take advantage of the many resources available through SCORE, a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration. SCORE provides trained counselors, often retirees, to offer free small business counseling and low cost workshops to both startup and in-business clients. SCORE volunteers are available to see clients on Fridays from 9 am to noon at the Fayette Chamber offices. Read More»
