Coweta hardware store to become furniture/appliance shop

The old Ace Hardware store on Ga. Highway 154 just north of Thomas Crossroads was approved Jan. 23 for a rezoning that will bring a furniture and appliance business to the location.

The unanimous vote by commissioners amended a condition of the C-6 (Commercial Minor Shopping Zoning District) zoning that allowed the site in 2004 to be used as a hardware store.

Applicant Jack Shepard requested that one of the conditions of the zoning be amended to permit the old hardware store to be converted to a business that sells furniture and appliances. Read More»

Fayette home sales improve in 2013

The long-lasting effects of the recession and the toll it took on home sales and home prices in Fayette County seem to have abated. Average home sale prices in 2012 inched up after several years of decline. Home sales in 2013 continued the upward trend, resulting in an increase in the number of homes sold and in an increase in the average sale price to more than $254,000.

A rezoning that will bring a national chain restaurant and other retail businesses to the commercial center on Andrew Bailey Road off Ga. Highway 34 was approved unanimously Thursday by the Coweta County Commission.

A London-based film and TV production guide publisher, KFTV.com, is reporting Jan. 15 that Marvel Comics’ Ant-Man will be the much anticipated blockbuster movie to start filming in May at Pinewood Atlanta Studios in Fayetteville.

“It is likely that the other locations for Ant-Man will be predominantly Atlanta-based; these were being locked down at the time of going to press,” according to the KFTV.com story, “Ant-Man: First film to shoot at Pinewood Atlanta.”

Coventry healthcare insurance policyholders in Fayette and Coweta counties got a troubling letter in the last few days — notice that the main hospital and physicians group in this area would no longer be “in-network” for them.

If Piedmont Healthcare and Piedmont Physicians Group would no longer be available to thousands of Coventry policyholders as in-network providers, costs could skyrocket for the patients.
