Hollywood movie makers move into our neighborhood

A different kind of history was made in historic Senoia last Saturday. It was marked by an event that signaled a new partnership and one that will bring even more of Hollywood to Senoia and Coweta and Fayette counties.

Fresh Market to spark shopping center renovation

It looks like the Peachtree Crossing shopping center may be the next retail space getting an exterior makeover.

The first phase of that makeover will start with the new Fresh Market grocery store that will be taking up much of the space vacated last year by the “baby Kroger” store,

Once that is complete, the remainder of the storefronts will be renovated in phases, Peachtree City Developmental Services Director David Rast told the planning commission Monday.

Kohl’s, ballfields up for grabs at Fischer Crossing

It’s all boiling down to a preference of old versus new. And it looks like the future of the Kohl’s department store and the remaining 225,000 square feet of retail and three community football fields proposed for location in the northeast section of the previously approved Fischer Crossing retail development in east Coweta will be a matter of whether Coweta County commissioners side with the small, but long-established owners of the Featherston Fishing Club at Wynn’s Pond who oppose the project. County to file lawsuits in 4 cases of abandoned, deteriorating houses

Fayette County officials are in the process of filing lawsuits to deal with four homes in the county that are in major disrepair.

One such suit has already been initiated as the county is asking the court to declare a home a public nuisance. Two of the homes were damaged by fires and never repaired and the other two were abandoned mid-construction, and the elements have exacted damage to the frame of those structures, county officials have said. Jobless rates in Newnan and Coweta decrease in July

Both Newnan and Coweta County saw significant decreases in the unemployment rate during July. Coweta’s jobless rate is inching downward toward 9 percent while Newnan’s rate fell below 11 percent.

Coweta saw its unemployment rate drop from 9.7 percent in June to 9.3 percent in July, according to the Georgia Dept. of Labor (DOL). The decrease in the past two months compares to an unemployment rate of 10.1 percent in July 2009. The current jobless rate represents 5,428 people out of work in a county workforce of 58,641.
