Jobless rate back up in Coweta, Three Rivers

The unemployment rate in Coweta County crept back up in January to just under 10 percent while the jobless rate in the Three Rivers Commission area jumped to close to 12 percent. Newnan’s unemployment rate in January fell slightly to 11.3 percent.

The 9.6 percent unemployment rate that Coweta saw in December just could not hold in own in January. That rate climbed a third of a percentage point to 9.9 percent in January, according to figures released late last week by the Georgia Dept. of Labor. That figure translates into 5,872 people without work in a county workforce of 59,381. Read More»

From bookstore to tool store: Harbor Freight Tools coming to empty Barnes & Noble

There will soon be a new business operating at the site of the former Barnes & Noble bookstore at the Uptown Square commercial development on Ga. Highway 85 North in Fayetteville. Nationwide retail tool supplier Harbor Freight Tools is expected to open its Fayette County location in the coming months.

The 21,000 square-foot store across Hwy. 85 from the Fayette Pavilion will soon become the home to a wide variety of power, air and hand tools, generators, automotive and motorcycle accessories, lawn and garden equipment, garage and shop items and general merchandise. Read More»

As area residents flock to get acquainted with The Fresh Market at their grand opening tomorrow, Karen Duncan, owner of Omega Books, and her staff hope that some of those residents take the time to get reacquainted with them.

“We’re so excited about Fresh Market opening this week. It’s been two years since Baby Kroger left and it was rough for the businesses in this center to lose the anchor store,” said Duncan, who added that the other business owners now feel more optimistic with The Fresh Market’s arrival and the facelift that the businesses in the center received. Work on Newnan cancer hospital to begin in April

Issues relating to a delay in beginning construction of the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) hospital in Newnan have been resolved. The company earlier this week said site preparation work is expected to begin April 1 with initial construction to begin in June.
