PTC planners scrutinize idea for Hwy. 74 S. bowling center

The architecture of a proposed bowling alley will be one of the biggest factors in whether Peachtree City’s Planning Commission will recommend a zoning restriction be removed for the property, the developer was told Monday night.

Oasis Bowling Centers wants to build near the AutoZone along Ga. Highway 74 South and Rockaway Road. The building would have 24 lanes to start with, with the potential to expand to 30 lanes at a later date, along with an arcade and a bar and restaurant. Read More»

Planners to discuss proposal Monday; would require change in zoning restrictions

Is it possible that a bowling alley might become a neighbor to the Autozone on Peachtree City’s southside?

The answer is yes ... and no. Technically, the zoning conditions for the Wilshire Village retail area prohibit a bowling alley as a use.

However, the city is exploring the possibility of lifting that restriction for a proposed “Oasis Bowling Center” to come to Wilshire Village, which is located off Ga. Highway 74 south at Rockaway Road. Read More»

After several years of hearings and meetings the final sticking points for the last, and arguably the most controversial, portion of the massive Fischer Crossings commercial development in east Coweta County was settled April 5 when the Coweta County Commission gave unanimous approval to an agreement between developer Scott Seymour and the Featherston Fishing Club. Senoia hears proposal for elderly care facility

The Senoia City Council April 4 conducted a public hearing and heard the first reading of a rezoning proposal that could lead to the construction of a facility to serve a portion of the city’s elderly population. The proposal by Tranquil Village, LLC involved the rezoning of 7.34 acres on Coweta Street from R-40 (Residential) to IIR (In-town Infill Redevelopment).

If approved by the council it will lead to the construction of the facility by Tranquil Village, LLC on the Coweta Street property recently surplused by the city. Read More»

Peachtree City’s Cooper Lighting on March 25 in recognition of being awarded its company’s Environmental Excellence Award presented a $7,500 award grant to the Southern Conservation Trust for improvements to the Line Creek Nature Area in Peachtree City.

Sharpsburg approves Oakhall Village annexation

Unanimously approved for annexation Monday night by the Sharpsburg Town Council, the 109-acre Oakhall Village commercial/residential development will be located southwest of the intersection of Ga. Highway 16 and Ga. Highway 54. The development will include 128,000 square feet of commercial and office space and 148 residential units.

It was about the biggest thing to hit Sharpsburg, ever. West Ga. Tech to build Coweta campus

West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) is on track to have a much larger presence in Coweta County and the surrounding areas.

The college last week received approval from the Coweta County Commission on a rezoning request that will lead to the April groundbreaking for 83,500 square feet of classroom space and the eventual construction of a 200,000-square-foot campus near Turkey Creek Road and I-85.

Though its service area is in Coweta and other west Georgia counties, the current WGTC campus in Newnan also has students from Fayette County. Read More»

PTC extends Saturday drinking hours

To serve til 2 a.m. Sunday, businesses must add video surveillance

Peachtree City has adopted extended alcohol sales hours for bars and restaurants, which will allow them to serve until 2 a.m. on early Sunday mornings instead of the current midnight cutoff.

The move, which takes effect April 1, was made largely for financial reasons.

Establishments in Coweta County are allowed to serve until 2 a.m., causing Peachtree City businesses to lose customers, City Administrative Services Director Betsy Tyler told the City Council Thursday night. Read More»
