Clayton State economist Mark Rogers to answer ‘Is recession really over?’ and ‘What’s next?’

Clayton State University’s Peachtree City instructional site, Clayton State-Fayette, is co-sponsoring a presentation at the Peachtree City Library by Clayton State adjunct faculty member and author/economist Mark Rogers.

The presentation, entitled “Is the Recession Really Over? What’s Next?,” will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 6, in the Floy Farr Room.

Wells Fargo puts new face on several local banks

Wachovia financial centers in Fayette County and across Georgia became Wells Fargo stores over the past weekend as a result of the largest bank merger in U.S. history.

More than 2.9 million customers in Georgia can now take advantage of over 350 Wells Fargo locations and 646 ATMs across the state, with added products and services and continued support to local communities, according to a company press release.

With four bank stores in Fayette, the company is claiming No. 1 market share of 18 percent and deposits of $327 million. Read More»

PTC takes another crack at final celltower rules

The latest changes to Peachtree City’s next celltower ordinance are expected to be approved Thursday night by the City Council.

At the request of council, the ordinance requires that all new antennas, even if they are going on an existing building, be reviewed by the planning commission and City Council before they are approved. A prior version of the ordinance allowed antennas on buildings without towers to be approved by city staff alone. Read More»

Smiles at Chuck E. Cheese: F’ville expected to OK coin games expansion

One of the few items of business before the Fayetteville City Council Thursday will be the second reading and potential approval of an ordinance that would allow a larger number of coin-operated amusement machines in some restaurants than what the current law allows.

The issue centers around Senate Bill 454 that regulates and limits coin-operated amusement machines. The law became effective July 1.

“Apparently, this legislative decision had unintended consequences on several of our businesses,” said city clerk Anne Barnard in a Sept. 20 memo. Read More»

Missions group relocating to PTC

An evangelical Christian mission agency has announced it will relocate its U.S. headquarters to Peachtree City in August of next year.

Africa Inland Mission will be moving from its current headquarters in Pearl River, NY, but the move is contingent on the sale of that building, the company said in a news release.

Africa Inland Mission is an evangelical Christian mission agency serving in over 20 African nations and dedicated to seeing Christ-centered churches established and thriving among all African peoples. Read More»

Seymour sues Coweta commissioners over Fischer Crossings issue

Perhaps it was only a matter of time. The denial late last month by the Coweta County Commission of a rezoning and road abandonment request by the Fischer Crossings Development Group turned into a lawsuit filed against the county on Oct. 1 in Coweta County Superior Court.

The suit by developer Scott Seymour followed the commission’s 3-2 vote to deny a rezoning proposal that would have placed a Kohl’s department store and other retailers on the northeast corner of the large Fischer Crossing development at Ga. Highway 34 and Fischer Road in east Coweta County. Read More»
