PTC used oil refinery to expand with merger

An oil re-refining company founded in Peachtree City in 1995 has announced a merger with a similar firm and an expansion of its facility on Dividend Drive in the city’s industrial park.

More range for gas-electric golf cart?

Manufacturer to offer dual option ‘hybrid’ model

Peachtree City residents may soon be grateful that the City Council declined a proposal in January that would have banned the use of gas-powered golf carts.

New technology from golf cart manufacturer E-Z-GO is promising to significantly extend the range of electric-powered golf carts by using a “hybrid” system that includes a gas-powered generator.

In addition to the typical electric power plant, the new hybrid golf cart will have a gasoline-powered generator that will charge the cart’s batteries “on the fly,” according to a press release from E-Z-GO. Read More»

Bonnell Aluminum makes big donation to Coweta 3rd graders

Employees of the Newnan’s Bonnell Aluminum company visited all 19 elementary schools in Coweta County this week, personally delivering over 1,600 Merriam-Webster dictionaries to students in every third grade class.

It is the tenth year the Newnan company has sponsored the county-wide donation, which is intended to promote literacy and academic skills among Coweta County elementary students, said school system spokesperson Dean Jackson. Read More»

Jobless rate hits 10.1% in Coweta, 12.4% in Newnan

There is a significant amount of economic activity going on in Coweta County. But even that activity has not been able to offer any improvement to the stagnating unemployment rate. That rate inched upward in August to 10.1 percent countywide and to 12.4 percent in Newnan.

Coweta County has a workforce of 60,195 but with a 10.1 percent unemployment rate that means that 6,065 people are without work. The jobless rate was 10 percent in July and 9.5 percent in August 2010, according to figures released by the Ga. Dept. of Labor. Read More»

TDK looks to consolidate space at PTC facility

TDK in Peachtree City is looking to add a 40,000 square-foot expansion to its facility on TDK Boulevard to consolidate its warehouse and shipping activities. The measure was briefly discussed at the Sept. 22 workshop meeting of the Peachtree City Planning Commission and will be submitted as a conceptual plan in October.

The conceptual site plan for the existing TDK facility shows the proposed addition of approximately 40,000 square feet that will be similar in design to the existing structure, said city Planning and Zoning Administrator David Rast. Read More»

Peachtree City company creates ‘green’ parking spaces for employees

In a nod to cleaner commutes, TDK in Peachtree City has set aside special parking spaces for hybrid vehicles, electric cars, motorcycles and those who are carpooling to Peachtree City with others.

Fayette Chamber on fence about regional sales tax vote

The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce has not taken a stance either for or against the proposed 1 percent regional transportation sales tax referendum, slated for July 2012.

The Chamber, however, is encouraging residents and local business owners to get up to speed on the projects, said Chamber President Virginia Gibbs.

“I think our thought is that it’s just really important for people to be informed and that’s what we’re doing to this point, trying to understand the projects and understand the process,” Gibbs said. “So we’re trying to encourage folks to be involved and be educated.” Read More»
