PTC industry pledges to scrub ammonia odor from new plant

A company that is building a new manufacturing plant to produce probiotic feed additives for farm animals will have an air scrubbing system to keep odors from drifting beyond the Peachtree City plant.

Calpis USA will use two different three-stage deodorizers to cleanse the gas before it is discharged. While the manufacturing process creates an ammonia smell, the deodorizers will remove the smell so “no unique odor will be discharged from this facility,” according to an email from a company representative. Braelinn Kroger expansion gets PTC planners’ approval

A plan to expand the Braelinn Kroger grocery store by nearly 43,000 sq. ft. was approved by the Peachtree City Planning Commission Monday night.

The store will also be renovated on the inside to make room for a Starbucks bistro, a sushi bar, a salad bar and other expanded services for customers along with wider aisles, a company official told the commission. Read More»

Fayette Chamber names Mark Gray as Business Person of the Year

The Fayette County Chamber of Commerce held its annual awards luncheon with just over 200 in attendance Jan. 18 at the Wyndham Conference Center in Peachtree City.

Mark Gray, State Farm Insurance agent in Peachtree City, was named as the Outstanding Business Person of the Year. This award is chosen by the previous award winners and is given to a person who owns, operates or manages a business or profession in the county. They must have demonstrated unselfish support of the community affairs and must also excel at managing and leading their business. Gray was the Chamber chairman in 2006. Read More»

New PTC agricultural industry will employ 42

A Japanese company is preparing to build its first U.S. production facility in Peachtree City off Ga. Highway 74 south near TDK Boulevard in the city’s industrial park.

Calpis Inc. is expected to employ 42 people on its 11.84 acre campus, according to a project description submitted to the city from InSpec Group of Atlanta. Read More»

A Peachtree City company has been named one of the top suppliers for General Motors for 2012.

TDK Components USA, Inc. was recently presented the GM Supplier Quality Excellence Award. Winners of the award meet or exceed a stringent set of quality performance criteria along with cross-functional support of the entire GM organization, officials said. Read More»

Construction is underway on a senior apartment complex near the Kedron Village shopping center that will include 96 units.

HearthSide Peachtree City is a $14.2 million project undertaken by NorSouth Development, which describes the complex as an “amenity-rich, affordable rental community reserved exclusively for independent seniors age 62 and older.” Read More»

Jobless rates fall again in Coweta, Fayette

Unemployment numbers in Coweta and Fayette counties have fallen again. Figures released last week by the Ga. Dept. of Labor showed the November jobless rate in both counties falling to levels not seen for the past few years. Coweta’s rate dropped to 7.2 percent while Fayette saw a rate of 6.8 percent. With property values and tax revenues continuing to fall, 2012 was not an easy year for Fayetteville. But what looks to be the beginning of an economic recovery paired with an ever-frugal city government might just signal better things to come in 2013.

Senior residential development underway

Somerby will be located off 74S, Rockaway Road

Construction of a senior citizen residential complex off Ga. Highway 74 south in Peachtree City is now chugging along.

The Somerby at Peachtree City development, once complete, will include a total of 310 units, split up among 74 age-restricted assisted living units, 30 condominiums and 136 apartments.

The 25-acre tract was rezoned from general industrial in 2007 to make way for the Somerby development. Prior to that action, the city had the tract earmarked for single family medium density development on the city’s land use plan. Read More»
