PTC OK's road sale for senior apartments

To create more breathing room for a new senior apartment complex, the Peachtree City Council agreed Thursday to sell the cul-de-sac and a bit more of the road at the end of Newgate Road.

NorSouth will pay the city $75,000 for the .43-acre parcel and will also pay all other costs associated with the city abandoning the road, according to city staff.

The land was not necessary for the apartment complex, but it will help improve the design by freeing up more greenspace on the site, NorSouth representatives have said. Read More»

Jobless rates fall again in Coweta, Newnan

Coweta County saw a significant drop in unemployment to 8.8 percent in November but it was Newnan that saw the jobless rate fall nearly a full percentage point to 10.2 percent.

The unemployment picture in Coweta got a bit brighter in November with jobless numbers falling half a percentage point to 8.8 percent. That compares to a 9.3 percent rate in October and 9.6 percent in November 2010.

Atlanta Trek donates bikes, helmets to military families

The Atlanta Trek store in Kedron Village in Peachtree City last week donated 10 bicycles and 10 helmets to Operation Homefront, an organization that assists military families. It was something Willard Hair and the employees at Atlanta Trek Bicycles in Peachtree City thought would make a difference at Christmas. The bicycle store at Kedron Village Shopping Center last week donated 10 bicycles and 10 bike helmets to Operation Homefront to be distributed to the families of service members.

Hair said he got the idea for the donation after hearing a college student on the radio about two weeks ago saying she did not support the troops or the war. Read More»

Jobless numbers fall in Coweta, Newnan

Unemployment figures for November will be out soon. And the news might be good for a change if the figures for October are any measure. Coweta County in October saw jobless numbers fall below 9.5 percent while Newnan’s unemployment numbers fell half a percentage point to 11.1 percent.

Unemployment in Coweta during October decreased to 9.4 percent compared to the 9.7 percent figure in September. That number equates to 5,653 people out of work in a countywide workforce of 60,400.

Employment picture brightens in October for Fayette, PTC

The unemployment picture for Fayette County seems to be improving. If the figures for November due out in a couple of weeks look anything like those from October it will be a welcome sight. The October jobless rate in Fayette County fell by nearly half a point to 8.8 percent while Peachtree City saw unemployment drop from 8.4 percent to 7.9 percent. Read More»
