Vehicle ‘birthday tax’ to be replaced with 1-time title fee

Gov. Nathan Deal last week signed tax reform legislation that will wipe out ad valorem taxes on all vehicles sold after March 1, 2013.

U-Haul denied unique marketing approach

Fayette Chamber has a winner

Dr. Jonathan Bender is the winner of the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce's annual $10,000 drawing. Little change in Coweta jobless numbers

Coweta County topped the 8 percent unemployment mark in January 2008 and more than four years later it’s still there. Coweta’s jobless rate in February was 8.5 percent while the rate in Newnan was reported by the Ga. Dept. of Labor at 9.5 percent.

Coweta County in February experienced a small dip in jobless numbers to 8.5 percent. In a workforce of 63,492 that means that 5,393 have not found work. The rate in January was 8.6 percent while the rate a year ago totaled 9.1 percent. Read More»

Fayette jobless numbers rise in February to 8.2%

It is widely claimed that the Great Recession ended in mid-2009. But somebody forgot to give the job market the good news. Fayette County’s unemployment rate in February increased slightly to 8.2 percent while the jobless figures in Peachtree City also saw a slight increase to 7.2 percent

Fayette County’s jobless rate inched upward in February to 8.2 percent. That came on the heels of a 8.1 percent rate in January. Fayette has a workforce of 53,347 so the February rate translates into 4,379 residents out of work.

Meantime, the unemployment rate in February 2011 was also 8.1 percent. Read More»

“It’s becoming a regional medical destination.” That is how Coweta County Development Authority President Greg Wright summed up the situation at the community day event held March 14 at the new Piedmont Newnan Hospital on Poplar Road that will open its doors for patients in early May.
