Local company, Ga. Tech share international engineering award

A new video application developed through a partnership between MetalForming, Inc. and the Georgia Institute of Technology is garnering international praise and promises to revolutionize building measurement in the construction industry.

The video measuring technology earned the partners from MetalForming and Georgia Tech a 2011 Celebration of Engineering and Technology Innovation (CETI) Award. Full-service gas station era ends as Mask closes his doors in F’ville

The last full-service gas station has closed in Fayetteville, not to mention the last station owned by a native Fayette Countian.

Jerry Mask, 69, has lived and worked here most of his life. He began delivering groceries on his bicycle at the age of 12, delivered them by car at the age of 16 and was graduated from Fayette County High School in 1962.

One of nine children of Roland and Mary Lou McElwaney Mask, he has worked for the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and the Fayetteville Police Department. Read More»

F’ville Council unanimous: Appraise water system for sale

Fayette Commission to consider splitting appraisal costs

The Fayetteville City Council on May 17 unanimously agreed to spend up to $15,000 for an appraisal of the city’s water system for a potential sale to Fayette County.

Bond attorneys reviewing the matter said merging the two systems instead would not be permissible. City staff said the even without the sale it is only a matter of time before the currently lower city rates top those charged by the county. Read More»

F’ville bank building foreclosed, then bought by bank

The landmark Main Street Building on the west side of Ga. Highway 54 near downtown Fayetteville is being advertised for foreclosure.

The large two-story building built by 320 W. Lanier, LLC where Lanier Avenue and Stonewall Avenue split on the west side of the historic district currently houses Regions Bank.

The building is currently being advertised for foreclosure, according to 320 W. Lanier, LLC registered agent Barry McWhirter, who said that the loan was sold to Texas firm Lone Star. The company did not want to renew the loan and decided, instead, to advertise the building. Read More»
