Fayette Senior Services hosting Oktoberfest

The public is invited to celebrate Oktoberfest at Fayette Senior Services Life Enrichment Center, Monday, October 25, 5 to 8 p.m. The festivities include a German polka band, authentic German foods prepared by Executive Chef Donnie Wuerl and Pastry Chef Lori Bean, as well as traditional beverages. Tickets are $15 per person and may be purchased at the Center located at 4 Center Drive, Fayetteville. Advance ticket sales only. STG holding auditions for Christmas play

Southside Theatre Guild in downtown Fairburn will hold non-equity, open auditions for “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus”  on Monday, Oct. 4 and Tuesday, Oct. 5.  Both nights will begin with a 6:30 p.m. sign-in. This is a family show, so families are encouraged to audition.  Ages range from 8 to 80 plus.

This is a large production (17+ men and 8+ women), so there will be lots of opportunities for many. 

There will be eight performances – Dec. 2-5; 9-12. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sundays.

'Swamp Stompin Nature Hike' a success

Local residents had a Swamp Stompin' good time at the Sam’s Lake Bird Sanctuary on Saturday, Sept. 18.  The Swamp Stompin’ Nature Hike was the first in a series of Nature Explorers adventures offered by the Fayette County Parks & Recreation Department.  The Southern Conservation Trust manages the Sam’s Lake Bird Sanctuary and was a joint sponsor of the Swamp Stomp. The task for the men (Octane) and the women (Fortitude) on the second episode of “The Apprentice” was to sell as much ice cream as they could from an ice cream cart in Manhattan in two days. Friends and family members raising money for juvenile diabetes research

Katie Kojali has had diabetes since she was two years old. Her friend, Taylor Paine, was diagnosed earlier this year. On Oct. 16, they and their families will be a part of the Rockin Peeps, a team walking in the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s Walk to Cure Diabetes at Centennial Park in Atlanta. The walk is three miles long but the Rockin Peeps are doing more than just the walk. Read More»
