Seventh-grade student Madeline Fry of Peachtree City has won the 2010 state Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) essay contest in her age classification and will now compete at the southeastern division level.

Fry was recognized at the 112th Georgia State Society DAR State Conference held March 25-28 in Peachtree City, when Becky West made the formal announcement and presentation during the School/Youth Luncheon on Saturday. Read More»

Easter egg hunt in Peachtree City, Apr. 3

The Peachtree City Optimist Club along with the Peachtree City Fire Department and volunteer firefighters are having their annual Easter Egg Hunt, Apr. 3 at Shakerag Knoll across from the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater. Registration and games start at 9:30 a.m. and the hunt starts at 10:30 a.m. for ages 1 to 11. There will be fire trucks, games, candy, moonwalk, face painting and the Easter Bunny. It seems that every time a person writes a book and it makes the best sellers list, a movie is made out of it a few years later. It can be good or bad. With “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” it’s good.

The story is that Greg, a small boy going into middle school, is trying to find his place in a society. This isn’t easy, especially since his best friend, Rowley, still acts and dresses like an elementary school kid. The Southern Crescent Chorale under the direction of Janice Folsom is proud to present their sixth annual benefit concert on Sat., March 27 at 7 p.m. at the Southwest Christian Church in East Point, Ga. The concert will benefit The Children’s Village at Christian City. The Woodward Academy Choirs will join the SCC for an evening of outstanding choral music. Florida band plays in fundraiser for Sams School

It promises to be a unique blend of original jazz and rock April 10 at the Wyndham in Peachtree City as a Florida-based group of air traffic controllers known as Aire Traffic takes to the stage to benefit the upcoming 6th Annual Race for Riley fundraiser. Proceeds go to the Joseph Sams School in Fayetteville.
Band member David Blumberg said the Race for Riley event will mark the band’s first trip to Georgia.

The doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m. A silent auction will be held before the music starts and again at intermission. Read More»

Monopoly tournament returns to Towne Club May 1

The second annual Peachtree City Monopoly tournament is scheduled for Saturday, May 1 at the Towne Club on Crosstown Road.  Players will be competing for $200 in cash prizes to be awarded to the top four finishers. There is no entry fee.

This year’s tournament will be run exactly as last year’s. The first round of 64 players at 16 tables will start at 10 a.m.  A semifinal round of the 16 winners from the first round will play on four tables at noon. The four winners of the semifinal will play the championship game on a Collector’s Edition board at 2 p.m. Read More»
