President Theodore Roosevelt coming to Newnan

The Newnan-Coweta Historical Society will present “An Evening with President Teddy Roosevelt” as portrayed by Joe Wiegand. Roosevelt will appear at the Wadsworth Auditorium, 25 Jefferson Street in Newnan, on Thursday, Mar. 24 at 7 p.m. He will speak on his life and careers. Admission will be $5 (students $3). 'Tuesdays with Morrie' opens at Southside Theatre Guild this week

Mitch Albom’s “Tuesday with Morrie,” has enjoyed success as both a best-selling book and a television movie starring Jack Lemmon and Hank Azaria. The memoir focuses on Mitch and his old college professor Morrie discussing what’s really important in life. The story is sentimental but also thought-provoking and, at times, very funny.

Southside Theatre Guild in downtown Fairburn will present the award winning play “Tuesdays with Morrie” for two weekends, beginning this Thursday, Feb. 24 and running Thursdays-Sundays, through Mar. 6. Read More»

Master gardeners identify trees at Sams Lake Bird Sanctuary

On a recent warm February afternoon, master gardeners Al Baird and Rich Cocos walked the trail at Sams Lake Bird Sanctuary and posted small signs identifying various trees in the nature preserve.

Visitors to the preserve will now benefit from their work and be able to know what trees are growing in this wetland habitat.

Al and Rich have just completed an in-depth five-day training seminar on Urban Forestry conducted by the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension to receive a Gold Star for advanced training in Urban Forestry and Ecology. Read More»

The Southern Crescent Chorale will present Mozart’s Requiem on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. at Spivey Hall at Clayton State University. Under the direction of Janice Folsom, this concert will be accompanied by Rick Massengale at the world renowned Spivey Hall organ. Starr Search 2011 this Thursday

Starr’s Mill High School’s Choral Department will showcase some of the best student talent in Fayette County at its annual talent show.

Starr Search 2011, to be held on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m., will include a variety of acts—everything from bands, to vocal duets, to solo dancers. Acts will be judged by a panel that will award first-, second- and third-place cash prizes. Last year, first place honors were awarded to the vocalist duo of sisters Kari and Laura Lien.
