Donation to Locks of Love is a family affair

A mother and daughter from Peachtree City decided to make a difference together and collectively cut more than 20 inches of their own hair length to donate to Locks of Love. Locks of Love is a non-profit agency that collects hair donations from around the country and turns them into hair pieces and hair wigs for young patients with medical conditions such as alopecia and cancer. The organization, located in Florida, specifically supports children with hair loss due to medical conditions. Read More»

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity joins Relay For Life

Theta Lambda Lambda, local chapter of the international Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, has committed to participating in the American Cancer Society’s 2010 Relay For Life of Fayette County. Founded in 1911 at Howard University in Washington, D. C., Omega Psi Phi is the first African-American national fraternal organization to be founded at a historically black college. Moffatt’s latest book is about hope in the face of tragedy

Dr. Greg Moffatt, a regular columnist for the Healthwise section of this newspaper, is also a college professor, a licensed counselor and a public speaker. In addition to wearing those hats, he has served as a regular lecturer at the FBI Academy, as a profiler with the Atlanta Cold Case Squad and is also a published author. Fayette-Starr’s Mill Chapter NSDAR named Dolly Morgan their “Notable Woman of Fayette County” at their Mar. 8 meeting in the home of Carol Abadie. Morgan has lived in Peachtree City most of her life, and her late husband was a Peachtree City mayor. She plays golf, kayaks and enjoys international travel. Local teen captures state DAR award

Seventh-grade student Madeline Fry of Peachtree City has won the 2010 state Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) essay contest in her age classification and will now compete at the southeastern division level.

Fry was recognized at the 112th Georgia State Society DAR State Conference held March 25-28 in Peachtree City, when Becky West made the formal announcement and presentation during the School/Youth Luncheon on Saturday. Read More»

Easter egg hunt in Peachtree City, Apr. 3

The Peachtree City Optimist Club along with the Peachtree City Fire Department and volunteer firefighters are having their annual Easter Egg Hunt, Apr. 3 at Shakerag Knoll across from the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater. Registration and games start at 9:30 a.m. and the hunt starts at 10:30 a.m. for ages 1 to 11. There will be fire trucks, games, candy, moonwalk, face painting and the Easter Bunny.
