Classic Rock will fill the air Saturday night as The Fred finishes up the Lexus of South Atlanta Summer Concert Series.

The finale features the 70s and 80s band Styx.

The opening act is very special guest star Ed Roland and The Sweet Tea Project.

They will open the show at 8 p.m.

Spawned from a suburban Chicago basement in the early 70s, Styx would eventually transform into the virtual arena rock prototype by the late 70s and early 80s, due to a fondness for big rockers and soaring power ballads. Read More»

The 2014 Kiwanis Coweta County Fair on Pine Road will be open through Sept. 27. With special events and promotions, expect every visit to be fun-filled and action-packed. The fair’s hours are:

Today: noon to 12 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 21: 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Monday,Sept. 22 - Thursday, September 25: 5 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Friday, Sept. 26: 5 p.m. to 12 p.m.

Saturday, Sept. 27: noon to midnight.

The Petting Zoo closes nightly at 9 pm. The exhibit hall and agriculture building close nightly at 10 p.m.

‘Bury Me with My Whistle’

Coach Ted “Rock” Knapp woke up one day in March 2008 with both ankles swollen. He ended up at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, was diagnosed 36 hours later with two terminal diseases, amyloidosis and multiple myeloma, and given six to 11 months to live.

As his health waned, Rock, who lives in Peachtree City, quietly retired from Sherwood Christian Academy in Albany, Ga., after 30 years of coaching high school football across the continent. Read More»

Shakerag arts festival is this weekend

It’s time for the 37th annual Shakerag Arts & Crafts Festival in Peachtree City. Hosted by the Peachtree City Recreation and Special Events Department, the festival begins Sept. 20 and continues through Sept. 21. The event is at Shakerag Knoll located at 191 McIntosh Trail, Peachtree City, GA 30269. The hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and noon to 5p.m. on Sunday.

Main Street Newnan is excited to usher in the fall event season with its annual Fall Art Walk Sept.19. The free event takes place between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. in historic downtown Newnan.

Sandy Creek High School’s choral department is pleased to present the 2014 talent show Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. at the new Handley Park Pavilion at 250 Handley Rd. in Tyrone during this year’s Founders Day celebration.

Students will compete for prizes in several categories, including vocal solo, vocal duet, band/instrumental performance, dance, and others.

First-place winners in each category will be offered the opportunity to perform onstage September 19, during the Tyrone Founders Day festivities. Read More»
