Fayette students clean up 700 pounds of trash along Line Creek

The Adopt-a-Stream students from McIntosh High School and students from Sandy Creek High School’s Key Club combined one sunny Saturday morning recently and collected 700 pounds of trash along the course of Line Creek in western Fayette County.

The 65 volunteers were part of a Rivers Alive cleanup event sponsored by the Fayette County Environmental Management Department and the town of Tyrone. Rivers Alive is an annual volunteer waterway cleanup that targets all waterways in Georgia. This group picked up trash and debris along Line Creek. Read More»

Friends of the Peachtree City Library invite the public to “American Pie: a Tour in Words and Music” from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Local authors Pat Butler, Sara DeLuca, and Paul Lentz will read from their recently published books. Music will be performed by Tom Watts, and will include selections from his recent album, “One Sweet Day.” This is an “after-hours event,” and only the front door of the library will be open.

More than just a musical review of 1940s swing music, this family-friendly show is a hilarious, endearing,and at times poignant homage to America’s greatest generation. The city of Newnan’s annual Christmas parade will is December 8, beginning at 3 p.m. The parade begins at Salbide Avenue and Greenville Streets.  It’s a “Winter Wonderland” so bring on your snow!  The parade will include floats, walking groups, decorated cars and trucks, and marching bands.

Starr’s Mill High School goes green: Fine Arts Department presents ‘Shrek the Musical’

In a faraway kingdom, an ogre shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won’t shut up, a bad guy with a short temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits and that’s “Shrek The Musical.”

PTC honoring Vietnam veterans

Paying respects — The public is invited to honor Vietnam veterans at Peachtree City’s 2013 Veterans Day Observance hosted by the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing at Atlanta Regional Airport-Falcon Field today (Saturday, Nov. 9) from 9 a.m to noon. This Saturday, Nov. 9, veterans of the Vietnam War will be recognized at Peachtree City’s 2013 Veterans Day Observance hosted by the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing. The program will be held during the flying museum’s third annual Veterans Day Open House from 9 a.m.-noon. The open house and program is free to the public.

 The open house begins at 9 a.m. with tours of the CAF Dixie Wing Historical Airpower Facility museum and workshop where aircraft are restored and maintained.

Volunteers will be on hand to answer questions regarding current projects and education exhibits. Read More»
