Annual swing dance returns to WWII History Festival

On Saturday, Apr. 24, the Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Dixie Wing will host “Keep ‘em Flying,” a 1940s-theme hangar dance, complete with big-band performances, swing dance demonstrations, period costumes and vintage aircraft.

The festivities will be held at the Historical Airpower Facility, Atlanta Regional Airport Falcon Field in Peachtree City and will begin at 6 p.m. with free swing dance lessons by Rachel Ferguson Dance Connection.

Spring has sprung! It’s time to enjoy some fun music under the stars at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater on Apr. 24. The Starr’s Mill High School bands have been working diligently all winter to prepare for an evening of fantastic entertainment. In past years, the “Night of Starrs” event has been held in smaller venues. Due to the growing popularity of the show, the event this year will be held directly under the stars at the amphitheater. DreamWorks has a talent for making original stories. Some of the company’s films are the “Shrek” trilogy and “Kung Fu Panda.” With their newest flick, “How to Train Your Dragon,” they make another winner that is beautifully directed and has likeable characters. It seems that every time a person writes a book and it makes the best sellers list, a movie is made out of it a few years later. It can be good or bad. With “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” it’s good.

The story is that Greg, a small boy going into middle school, is trying to find his place in a society. This isn’t easy, especially since his best friend, Rowley, still acts and dresses like an elementary school kid. Concert featuring Southern Crescent Chorale to benefit Children’s Village at Christian City

The Southern Crescent Chorale under the direction of Janice Folsom is proud to present their sixth annual benefit concert on Sat., March 27 at 7 p.m. at the Southwest Christian Church in East Point, Ga. The concert will benefit The Children’s Village at Christian City. The Woodward Academy Choirs will join the SCC for an evening of outstanding choral music. Florida band plays in fundraiser for Sams School

It promises to be a unique blend of original jazz and rock April 10 at the Wyndham in Peachtree City as a Florida-based group of air traffic controllers known as Aire Traffic takes to the stage to benefit the upcoming 6th Annual Race for Riley fundraiser. Proceeds go to the Joseph Sams School in Fayetteville.
Band member David Blumberg said the Race for Riley event will mark the band’s first trip to Georgia.

The doors open at 6 p.m. and the music starts at 7 p.m. A silent auction will be held before the music starts and again at intermission. Read More»

Local indie recording artists Legal Eyed Drive will be holding a CD release party for their self-titled debut album at 8 p.m. tomorrow (March 19) at The Alamo in Newnan, Ga.

The band has been playing a limited schedule of selected venues to prepare for the recording of their first release. They have frequently played at local establishments in and around the Atlanta area. Band members include lead vocalist/guitarist/ songwriter- Ken Luellen, drummer- Phillip Neill, acoustic rhythm guitarist- Max Haygood, bassist- Steve Salamanca, and guitarist/ background vocalist- Chad Alexander.
