Historic Cemetery Walk showcases Fayette’s past

Now in its third year, the revamped Cemetery Walk will be held for one night only on Saturday, Oct. 23. The nearby museum’s Spirit Guides will take visitors on a guided walking tour through the Historic City Cemetery. The tour will stop at different gravesites where visitors will meet spirits from beyond the grave and learn about local history through interesting tales that shaped Fayette County’s history. Big hair, leg warmers and Madonna-esque style will take you back to the glory days of the 1980s in this high energy extravaganza, “Fame,” performed by Whitewater High School Oct. 21, 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. and Oct. 24 at 2:30 p.m. in the school’s auditorium.

The crowds poured into Falcon Field in Peachtree City over the weekend to take in the one-of-a-kind sights and sounds at the 2010 Great Georgia Airshow. ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ opens at The Legacy Theatre Oct. 8

There is a definite buzz of excitement among The Legacy Theatre’s patrons as Alfred Uhry’s “Driving Miss Daisy” rolls onto the stage this fall.

Kelly Smith Beaty, Fayetteville’s contestant on the new season of “The Apprentice,” is still on the show. She hasn’t been fired by Donald Trump. She hasn’t done much of anything. At least in what’s been revealed to us by the producers and editors of “The Apprentice.” I assume it’s her strategy to not make waves, and it’s a good one, but it makes it kind of hard to write about. The Southside Theatre Guild in downtown Fairburn is thrilled to open it’s 38th season with a revival of one of Atlanta’s best-loved, original musical comedies, “Della’s Diner...Blue Plate Special.”

Starr's Mill choral department to present fall concert, Oct. 11

Nearly 50 students from SMHS’s Chanticleer, the choral department’s advanced mixed ensemble, kicked off the 2010-2011 year by participating in a daylong retreat at the Calvin Center in Hampton.

The Starr’s Mill High School Choral Department will present its annual fall concert on Monday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. in Duke Auditorium.

All six of the school’s choral groups—Bel Canto, Camerata, Bella Voce, Chanticleer, An Octave Above (the women’s jazz ensemble) and Men of the Mill (10-member men’s a cappella group)—will present selections they have been rehearsing since school began under the direction of Dr. John Odom, SMHS director of choral activities, and Christy Todd, assistant director of choral activities. STG holding auditions for Christmas play

Southside Theatre Guild in downtown Fairburn will hold non-equity, open auditions for “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus”  on Monday, Oct. 4 and Tuesday, Oct. 5.  Both nights will begin with a 6:30 p.m. sign-in. This is a family show, so families are encouraged to audition.  Ages range from 8 to 80 plus.

This is a large production (17+ men and 8+ women), so there will be lots of opportunities for many. 

There will be eight performances – Dec. 2-5; 9-12. Showtimes are 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sundays.
