'Tuesdays with Morrie' opens at Southside Theatre Guild this week

Mitch Albom’s “Tuesday with Morrie,” has enjoyed success as both a best-selling book and a television movie starring Jack Lemmon and Hank Azaria. The memoir focuses on Mitch and his old college professor Morrie discussing what’s really important in life. The story is sentimental but also thought-provoking and, at times, very funny.

Southside Theatre Guild in downtown Fairburn will present the award winning play “Tuesdays with Morrie” for two weekends, beginning this Thursday, Feb. 24 and running Thursdays-Sundays, through Mar. 6. Read More»

Four soloists join Southern Crescent Chorale at Spivey Hall, Feb. 27

The Southern Crescent Chorale will present Mozart’s Requiem on Sunday, Feb. 27 at 3 p.m. at Spivey Hall at Clayton State University. Under the direction of Janice Folsom, this concert will be accompanied by Rick Massengale at the world renowned Spivey Hall organ. Tickets for the concert are $15 for adults and $7.50 for students and may be purchased at www.southerncrescentchorale.org, from any Chorale member, or at Spivey Hall, www.spiveyhall.org or 678-466-4200.

Starr Search 2011 this Thursday

Starr’s Mill High School’s Choral Department will showcase some of the best student talent in Fayette County at its annual talent show.

Starr Search 2011, to be held on Thursday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m., will include a variety of acts—everything from bands, to vocal duets, to solo dancers. Acts will be judged by a panel that will award first-, second- and third-place cash prizes. Last year, first place honors were awarded to the vocalist duo of sisters Kari and Laura Lien. Casting call for extras this weekend

Lori Eastside of NYC Casting and Ann Wittenberg of New Life Casting are holding a casting call Saturday, Feb 12.

The casting call is taking place from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Fayetteville / Peachtree City area.

They are looking for a variety of paid extras to portray characters during the Depression Era for the movie, “The Wettest County.” Filming begins near the end of February and we have a need for various Caucasian and African American individuals. Girl Power — Legacy Theatre brings Off-Broadway hit ‘The Marvelous Wonderettes’

One of the most dynamic periods for women in recent history was between the late 1950s and the late 1960s and the musical, “The Marvelous Wonderettes,” which opens Friday at The Legacy Theatre in Tyrone, explores this era through the story of four friends. The first act is set at the senior prom of Springfield High School in 1958 where the Wonderettes, four girls with big hopes and dreams, perform. The second act takes place 10 years later at their 10 year reunion. Things have changed for the girls, now women, and there are more opportunities available to them now. Read More»
